Well, now we are in the new year and although I have not seen the Big 3 ask for another bailout, the credit freeze is killing them anyway. Dealerships here in Tampa Fl are closing all over, the TV adds they run show desperation. Now would be a great time to loan money to a startup that wants to make car parts (HERE IN THE USA).
I honestly beleive that either there should have been 0 bailouts or the american taxpayer should have recieved every penny of that worthless printed money. If for no other reason to make them “feel” better.
WE CANNOT FIX BAD CREDIT WITH MORE CREDIT! Period. I have personally done this with cash advances from my bank and what happens is that you run it until it puts you completely down. Then you have to start over without it and manage your finances better. I would never claim that I am perfect or always make the right move especially with money, but these are “supposedly” our well educated and responsible leaders. Living within our means, all of us. That is what we need our leadership to do. It would be rough for a while, but our children and grandchildren would not be paying off trillions of dollars in bailouts with their taxes.
Ah well, we all see where it’s headed. Just take care of yourselves and your neighbors and watch the parade of greed march by until it destroys itself. Then we can start over and hopefully return this country to its’ ideas and follow our constitution the way it was meant to be.

These companies have a solvency problem, not just a liquidity problem. When you add up all the contractually-obligated payments they have to make to employees, retirees, suppliers, bondholders and so on, there just isn’t enough cash to go around. If they could escape these prior commitments and manage themselves more intelligently, there are profitable operating companies buried in there, but they are trapped underneath the absolute size of the commitments they have made. Everybody is either better off or no worse off if this happens.

AND AS FOR OUR PARTY SYSTEM, WE NEED TO GET RID OF BOTH PARTIES AND START OVER AGAIN. Rob, I think, nailed it. Tough times, serious ones, are coming, and the democrats that everyone voted in to the White House and to Congress will not only not help, but will prolong the tough times. Thanks to a useless, and possibly corrupt mainstream media in the USA, American voters thought their only options were Bush-style Republicans or Obama-led Democrats, and they were thrilled to vote out the Bushies. But the honeymoon will soon be over when they realize that Bush Repubs or Obama Dems – six and one half dozen of the other.
Simply put, we NEED alternative media, so we can get a strong third party in America. CNN, Fox News, and all the rest of the corporate junk media will never allow us to escape the prison of the Democrat/Republican structure.
Rob, and thank you for the suggestion about our neighbors. You’re right, it will come down to that I think, and I do think we’ll make it through the tough times, if enough people can manage to turn OFF their CNN to avoid panicking in the streets.

“Chrysler shuts down all production”… This is the CNN headline of the new article designed to scare Americans into supporting a bail out deal! The fact is, Chrysler is simply extending its normal 2-week holiday shut-down by an additional 2 weeks, in large part due to reduced customers who can’t get credit to buy their cars.
Can you believe the level of biased slant coming from CNN to bilk the taxpayer?? Just incredible!

What comes after is more bailouts. Is it not noticed how many un-bought vehicles sit on lots. People are not buying because they are scared and feel they have to hold onto their money. The top 5% do not see these things so the problem doesn’t exist and they wouldn’t care anyway.
So, they get a bailout to last them through the first of next year. Then with people still not willing to purchase cars, the dealerships start dying, then the “Big 3″ have no revenue coming in and fail anyway. But I’d lay bets that the upper management will get thier money out before this happens.
I give us 4 – 6 months and we are going to see some VERY bad times. We should be more than a little scared about the road we are headed down, especially since we honestly cannot change any of this. We are in the hands of greed driven idiots.
But remember we are the U.S.A., all of us! Not just the government or our armed services. When this all comes down to “main street”, take care of one another. Form closer communities and relationships with neighbors. Help those in need and accept help from those willing to give it.

Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction to either join, or start a class action lawsuit against the US Congress for passing the Stimulus Package without giving the citizens enough details on its specifics or implementation? The president talked a lot about transparency, but he must have meant transparency AFTER the Stimulus was signed into law? Is that even legal?
