We the People to Congress: Audit the Federal Reserve!

In today’s edition of the Washington Times (May 7, 2009), the Campaign for Liberty has taken out a wonderful ad — an open letter urging representatives to cosponsor Ron Paul’s Federal Reserve Transparency Act (HR 1207), signed by an unprecedentedly diverse coalition of individuals, activists, political organizations and citizen groups, all of whom join us in demanding that Congress finally shine a light on the secretive Federal Reserve System.

An Open Letter

to the U.S. House of Representatives

05/07/2009

Dear Representative,

We, the undersigned organizations representing millions of Americans, encourage you to cosponsor H.R. 1207, “The Federal Reserve Transparency Act,” which would eliminate the restrictions on U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) audits of the Federal Reserve.

Since its inception, the Federal Reserve has operated without sufficient transparency or accountability to the American people. In fact, current law specifically excludes the Fed from a thorough audit or real congressional oversight. No government agency has such an utter lack of sunshine.

The Federal Reserve has created and dispersed trillions of dollars in response to our current financial crisis. Americans across the nation, regardless of their opinion on the bailouts, want to know where that money has gone and exactly how much has been spent.

H.R. 1207 would open up the Fed’s funding facilities, such as the Primary Dealer Credit Facility, Term Securities Lending Facility, and Term Asset-Backed Securities Lending Facility to congressional oversight.

Additionally, audits could include discount window operations, open market operations, and agreements with foreign central banks, such as the ongoing dollar swap operations with European central banks.

By opening all Fed operations to a GAO audit and calling for such an audit to be completed by the end of 2010, H.R. 1207 would achieve much-needed transparency of the Federal Reserve.

Sincerely,

Campaign for Liberty

  4. I recall hearing a caller to a popular radio talk show late last year at the time of the first trillion dollar “bail-out”. He stated that some large sum of that money went to a company that was to buy up all available guns and ammunition in the country. I cannot remember the name but now that I recently heard about an imminent ammunition shortage happening, I wish I had remembered the name. If the caller who provided the then seemingly incongruous tidbit of information about someone supposedly buying up all remaining guns and ammunition during a financial crisis was right, and ultimately, no “tidbit” at all, as it now looks as if that unthinkable and most sinister of scenarios (the martial law one) is certainly not just “thinkable,” but inevitable now, considering the federalization of police forces and their empowerment against citizens with the provisions of HR 45 mentioned above. We are truly in “deep shit,”
    to put it nicely.

  5. Thanks to all that fight for this legislation.

Unsurprisingly, as we are focused on 1207, HR45 is being slipped under the radar.

To those that still believe in an unabridged Second Ammendment:
Please help stop HR45, and tell everyone you know.

    http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.45:

The first anti-gun bill of the 111th Congress – Chicago
Congressman Bobby Rush’s H.R. 45 – has caught the attention of
many in the Second Amendment community as something we need to be
    worried about.

This is because of the extremity of the bill:

    * H.R. 45 would require a federal license for all handguns and
semiautomatics, including those you currently possess; and

    * It would require handgun and semi-auto owners to be thumbprinted at the police station and to sign a certificate that, effectively, the firearm will not be kept in a place where it would be available for the defense of the gun owner’s family.

Make no mistake about it: Licensing is only a way-station to
discouraging, arresting, or humiliating gun owners and outlawing
guns. Under H.R. 45, for example, the applicant must also make
available ALL of his psychiatric records, pass an exam, and pay a
    fee.

So, are you a veteran who has ever consulted a psychologist or
psychiatrist? Guess what? The FBI would soon be examining every
confidential statement you have ever made during those consultations.

Private sales of handguns and semi-autos would be outlawed, and
reports to the attorney general of all transactions would be
required, even when ( as the bill allows ) the AG determines that
a state licensing system is sufficiently draconian to substitute for the federal license.

But, you may be thinking, “I’m just a hunter with a deer rifle,
surely none of this is relevant to me”?

Then you should know that, with virtually no exceptions, ALL firearms transactions (including person-to-person private sales of long guns, hunting rifles, shotguns, etc.) would be subject to the same paperwork hassles that are required when buying from a dealer.

In addition, the bill would make it unlawful in virtually all cases
to keep any loaded firearm for self-defense. A variety of ‘crimes
by omission’ (such as failure to report certain things to the
    government) would be created.

Criminal penalties of up to ten years and virtually unlimited
regulatory and inspection authority would be established.

Combined with the Ammunition Accountability effort to outlaw
ammunition in numerous states, this two-pronged attack would soon
make gun ownership a thing of the past.

  7. What has happened to Our Great Country? America? Daily I am amazed and stand in awe at the arrogance of officials in our government who tread on our Constitution, who disregard the rules of law, and who advance their own selfish agendas. Thank GOD Almighty for RON PAUL, and his followers who refuse to be a complicit in this display of utter tyranny, and abuse of the American People’s Trust. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I pray daily for the lost souls of this entire world; however some amongest us in government have NO FEAR of accountability, and judgment. That day is coming, and it should start with AN AUDIT OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE, and the criminal acts that have gone on there. All men are creatures of the law, and subject thereto. This applies to everyone—especially those who were elected to serve our Country, in Congress, in America, and were entrusted to serve and protect us, and not their political self-serving financial interests. Thank you RON PAUL, and your fellow Lawmakers who stand up for what is right, honest and just!!
