Obama Is Preparing Us For Perpetual War

News Anchor: In the meantime, we turn out attention from the health of the markets to the economic health of our nation. As the president announced last night that he will be sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan for this surge, a brief surge. Let’s take a listen.

Obama: Our prosperity provides a foundation for our power. It pays for our military, it underwrites our diplomacy, it taps the potential of our people and allows investment in new industry. And it will allow us to compete in this century as successfully as we did in the last. That’s why our troop commitment in Afghanistan cannot be open ended. Because the nation that I am most interested in building is our own.

News Anchor: Alright, we’re joined now for a Fox Business exclusive by Republican Congressman Ron Paul of Texas with his reaction. Congressman, thanks for joining us. What was your reaction to the speech last night?

Ron Paul: I think it’s a bit misleading. I think Obama is actually preparing us for perpetual war. He’s been warning us in that speech and elsewhere that we will be going into Pakistan. The idea that we’re going to bring our troops home eventually, I think, is just not so. And there is no way he can pay for this. It’s sort of like how are you going to pay for the medical care. “Oh yeah, we’re going to save enough money and we’ll pay for it and there will be no cost to it”. And now, this is going to cost hundreds of billions of dollars and we don’t have the money and it’s going to bring us down if we don’t stop it. So, I think it’s a flawed foreign policy, I think it’s a flawed economic policy, too, because you can’t pay for it. All wars are paid for through inflation. This will put just more pressure on the Fed to create more money because I don’t believe it would help us one bit to tax the people to pay for the war. They will try to, but that would be devastating to the economy to put a war tax on us at this point. So, in a way, they have no way out at this time unless they change policies.

News Anchor: So what would you suggest, Congressman?

Ron Paul: I’d suggest coming home.

News Anchor: Give up? Throw the towel in? Let the Taliban take over? Let Al Qaida re-establish itself in Afghanistan? You think that’s a good idea?

Ron Paul: Yeah, I think it’s a good idea that people have self determination. We yell and scream about the Taliban, but when we were defending the Mujahedeen, we called them freedom fighters and we allied ourselves with them and then we left. But when they were fighting the Soviets they were all good. But the Taliban means they don’t want occupiers. There is a total of 100 Al-Qaida in Afghanistan and what we’re doing is we’re following this precept of perpetual war for perpetual peace. And to me it’s perpetual bankruptcy and then you wonder why the price of gold is going up? It should be self-explanatory.

News Anchor: Congressman, let me ask you. From what I just heard that in the last 3 seconds, you think this is a war that is not winnable? You think we’re just basically putting lives in harm’s way in the next 18 months as we have this troop surge? Or is this actually a winnable war?

Ron Paul: I think they essentially admit that. They don’t expect to have a military victory; they don’t even claim it, they don’t even know what a military victory is. And they claim they’re not even in nation building. They claim that we’re in there for national security to destroy Al-Qaida. But our very presence is the motivation for people to join Al-Qaida or the Taliban. They are the people who want to defend their homeland and they’re sick and tired of the West, including many countries including us, who are in that region of the world and we have puppet dictators and we invade their countries and we occupy their countries. And in the name of fighting the Al-Qaida after 9/11, we went to war in Iraq, and that never made any sense. And the people over there are not going to all of a sudden become lovers of the United States and we inevitably will just bankrupt our country.

So I would say, yes. Don’t stay just to save face. How many more people have to die for us to say, “Oh we can’t surrender”? This whole idea that a president has to be strong and yet the strength that we need is a president to finally resist the pressure by the special interest: the military industrial complex, the bankers and all the people who want these wars, and say no. That’s what we need. We don’t need somebody that will just go along with the advisor and say, “Oh no, we have to leave, it’s in the national security interest and the whole world will end if we all of a sudden don’t have a policy that defends this country”, instead of bankrupting this country. Actually, you know, Osama Bin Laden’s goal was to get us to do exactly what we’re doing.

News Anchor: Congressman, if I recall correctly, you were against the surge in Iraq. The surge proved successful. Are you willing to admit you were wrong?

Ron Paul: Well, I don’t see any success.

News Anchor: You don’t?

Ron Paul: There is no stability and a little less killing, but how did we do it? We armed the Sunnis. The civil war is going to continue. We haven’t left there; we can’t leave. If you think all our troops are going to be home next year, you’re kidding yourself. That is going to last, there is still a time bomb there, there are still people who are just vying for power and to claim that we’ve had a major victory over there, at what expense? A trillion dollars and thousands of Americans killed and tens of thousands wounded? How much do you want to pay for this nation building? Even if you argued the case that, “Oh yes, tomorrow is going to be perfect and we’ve had success” I would say, “You paid too much”.

News Anchor: Alright. Congressman, always good to hear from you. Thank you.

  1. Obama isn't prepping anyone for perpetual war, perpetual war has been a reality in the US for well over 50 years. Every presidential term, the US invades another country, regardless of which party holds power over which house. On the rare occasion when they overthrow a dictatorship and bring in a nominal-democracy, it's big news, when they overthrow a democratically elected government, the media barely covers it and when they do they act like it's an internal matter and US troops just happen to be around to "fight terror" or "drug lords" or whatever excuse they pick.
If anything, Obama's time in office might be about winding down the perpetual war, making nice with the global prison state that's been built one country at a time and is pretty much finished and their ready to finish locking it all up.

  2. Ron Paul/Rand Paul 2012

Please end these ridiculous conflicts (considering they're not even real wars) and run for president in 2012. You're the only real, educated and qualified candidate who can help turn this country around. Please don't leave us with someone like Sarah Palin or any of the other sheep who care more about their own popularity than they do about the American people.

  3. Today Obama gets the Nobel Peace prize for extending the War into Pakistan.Perhaps pre-emptive wars are now peace, liberty is debt slavery, and work makes you free.Sounds like 1984 double speak to me.

Remember the words of the woman after the London tube bombings,"I will give up my liberty so I can be free." Meaning she would give up everything so she would not have to suffer from terrorism ,or the threat of dying.

  4. My family had the opportunity to meet Dr. Paul in Ames, IA a few weeks ago. Experience of a lifetime!!!! He is by far the only one in any government arena that really gets "IT". His battle against THE FED and Bernanke have been on the highlight reels on you-tube for many years. The list of anti-Constitutional workings are many, such as the federal and state income tax system, IRS, printing of fiat currency to pay our debts, wars that go on forever and ever with out end; 170 bases in over 130 countries;(we're not an Empire, right?) trying to federalize health care which is unconstitutional, but who cares? We have a State of Iowa legislator who has said that we don't do anything that is Constitutional anymore, so what is the big deal? To hell with that!!!!!! We need to replace everyone from Loebsback in Iowa all the way up to the President with those who will defend the CONSTITUTION WITH HONOR AND RESPECT, and to uphold Natural Law that is above any of man's law, that is totally inadequate to govern in a free society.

Remember, economic freedom is one of the cornerstones of Constitutional Liberty.

  5. Dr Paul,

Awhile back I contacted Senator Al Franken about The Federal Reserve Sunshine Act, and this is what he said:

"S. 604, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act, would direct the Comptroller General to audit the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and of the Federal Reserve banks. However, as you might know, the Federal Reserve System is audited each and every year by the Government Accountability Office (GAO). In addition, the Federal Reserve releases its balance figures every week."

Senator Franken's belief is that we are already auditing the FED, and no further investigation is needed. I would like to suggest to you that if Senator Franken is not aware of the differences, there is a great possibility that many other people do not understand. Would it be possible for you to explain this in greater detail? Obviously, we are going to get nowhere if even the Senate does not understand.

  6. More important that Dr. Paul actually upheaving the current special interest owned form of Government in 2012 is continuing to spread the awareness. More important still is inspiring new crops of Ron Paul Republicans as candidates at local levels.

Many "Conservatives" don't realize that the current GOP no longer represents their beliefs and are easily swayed by it's past reputation rather than it's current actions. There are many waiting to recognize it... needing to recognize it... and that comes by the word from Ron Paul further spreading across the nation.

Our hope comes from one of the two parties emerging as our voice and that hope is for the Republican Party to be transformed into what it always claims to be. The party that truly holds our Constitution dear to it's heart. It is not that now although it claims to be. Now is the time to seize it and take it back from the Corporate masters that uses Xenophobia to rally support for it's faith based initiatives and corporate imperialism.

I was once a follower of the Ministry of Fox News and Imperial Wizard Rush Limbaugh but I asked questions. I required reasonable and logical answers to my questions and they offered none. It was Dr. Paul that answered my questions and those answers exposed that the Emperor was wearing no clothes. There are others waiting to hear those answers. Dr. Paul's run in 2012 gets those answers to even more people. We've not strayed too far from the shores of America yet that in numbers we cannot swim back and reclaim the nation our Founders gave to us.

They say the only way to rebuild something is to tear it down and rebuild it with a stronger foundation. The GOP is prime for it's first phase of reconstruction in 2012. It will be split among the "kill anything different" crowd that will support Palin and the well-intentioned "Christian Values" supporters of Huckabee. Then will stand those that understand that our military is not to hunt for sport and that a religion inspired leader implies that some Americans are different thus being non-representative of all Americans. There is where Ron Paul will stand as a voice of reason with a larger conduit available to spread logic and common sense to greater masses.

    • Mac Leckey: If what you say happens to the Republican party then we will have a Huckabee/Palin ticket in 2012. Dr. Paul needs to build some sort of consensus with one of these two or he won't stand a chance in 2012. If you read Palin's book you will find out that Huck and Palin are two peas in a pod when it comes to faith. Guess what? There is nothing wrong with that! Ron Paul needs to emphasize that Palin and Huck don't have a monopoly on Christian values and that he himself represents those same values. If he does that then he'll have a chance to win.

Dr. Paul, My husband and I support your quest to have the Federal Reserve audited. I think that once they are, government controls won't necessarily be an issue. God Bless you. Nancy Macias

  8. What we need is more cigar shaped misslies, aimed at the moaning lewidinski, lustful perpetuation of agression.Perpetual war is just a reflection of their inadaquacies. Why are we so surprised?

Our humanity seems to seek destruction as a solution to re-birth.When Pol Pot a US backed murderer, killed the educated in Cambodia,it never really recovered.People who visit there to this day say, that there is an eerie void that seems eternal.

Do we in the West want to go there?

  14. GREAT JOB! Dr. Paul for opposing additional troops to Afghanistan & Pakistan! I am glad that You have bucked the fringe of the GOP on this issue! Obama is like George Bush! So he basically lied and said that he'll get all of our troops out of the Middle East! & we keep sending money to fund these frivilous wars. We're in Iraq because of oil! I am no longer sure why were in Afghanistan as well!
I think You should run in 2012 as president also! Because the other GOP candidates are going to continue funding these wars as well as Obama!

  16. The only criticism is from those critical of reason and logic...and of their own country's very constitution. There can be no legal war other than by Congress' (the people's representatives, at least they used to be) DECLARATION of War. Apparently Con Law I is taught to us law students but, not followed by those in government.

"If the American people ever allow the banks to control the issuance of their currency the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property, until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”

  17. Mr. Ron Paul, I would like to thoroughly thank you for standing up for your views and beliefs, even against the harshest of criticism. I honestly agree with many, if not all, of the things you had mentioned in this video. There are just so many things that people just don't want to believe, or there are things they believe that they shouldn't (namely propaganda and deception). I really do hope that you find yourself in the position come 2012 to run for presidency. Also, I would seriously like to work for you.
