Bin Laden Is Dead – Let’s Come Home!

Date: 05/09/2011

by Ron Paul

Last week marked an important milestone in the war on terrorism for our country. Osama bin Laden applauded the 9/11 attacks. Such deliberate killing of innocent lives deserved retaliation. It is good that bin Laden is dead and justice is served. The way in which he was finally captured and killed shows that targeted retribution is far superior to wars of aggression and nation-building. In 2001 I supported giving the president the authority to pursue those responsible for the vicious 9/11 attacks. However, misusing that authority to pursue nation-building and remaking the Middle East was cynical and dangerous, as the past ten years have proven.

It is tragic that it took ten years, trillions of dollars, tens of thousands of American casualties and many thousands of innocent lives to achieve our mission of killing one evil person. A narrow, targeted mission under these circumstances was far superior to initiating wars against countries not involved in the 9/11 attacks, and that is all we should have done. This was the reason I emphasized at the time the principle of Marque and Reprisal, permitted to us by the US Constitution for difficult missions such as we faced. I am convinced that this approach would have achieved our goal much sooner and much cheaper.

The elimination of Osama bin Laden should now prompt us to declare victory and bring our troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq. Al Qaeda was never in Iraq and we were supposedly in Afghanistan to get Osama bin Laden. With bin Laden gone, there is no reason for our presence in the region – unless indeed it was all about oil, nation-building, and remaking the Middle East and Central Asia.

Hopefully bin Laden does not get the last laugh. He claimed the 9/11 attacks were designed to get the US to spread its military dangerously and excessively throughout the Middle East, bankrupting us through excessive military spending as he did the Soviets, and to cause political dissention within the United States. Some 70 percent of Americans now believe we should leave Afghanistan yet both parties seem determined to stay. The best thing we could do right now is prove bin Laden a false prophet by coming home and ending this madness on a high note.

Tragically, one result may be the acceptance of torture as a legitimate tool for pursuing our foreign policy. A free society, calling itself a republic, grounded in the rule of law, should never succumb to such evil.

At the very least we should all be able to agree that foreign aid to Pakistan needs to end immediately. The idea that bin Laden was safely protected for ten years in Pakistan, either willfully or through incompetence, should make us question the wisdom of robbing American citizens to support any government around the world with foreign aid. All foreign aid and intervention needs to end.

Our failed foreign policy is reflected in our bizarre relationship with Pakistan. We bomb them with drones, causing hundreds of civilian casualties, we give them billions of dollars in foreign aid for the privilege to do so, all while they protect America’s enemy number one for a decade.

It is time to consider a sensible non-interventionist foreign policy as advised by our Founders and authorized by our Constitution. We would all be better off for it.

He’s not dead. Look under the rug.

  • If you live in the states you can do more than wish for Ron Paul to become the next president. You can help your wish to become FACT. Ron Paul 2012!

  • Number of request is not enough to claim something. Look what USA government is doing to Libya, how can someone like USA when you do that thing to regular people. Anyway I wish that Ron Paul will win on next elections and that he will change American war policy.

  • Thanks – even my own son just told me that he will vote for Ron Paul ” but he can’t win”! And this is after all my preaching .: ) Why will people let the media control their vote ? If everyone who really wanted to vote for Ron just voted for him, he certain could win . Don’t let anyone tell you that you are throwing away your vote, splitting the vote and giving another candidate an advantage, etc.
Go, Ron Paul – one of the FEW honest politicians left.

  • Very well said.

Ron Paul makes more sense than any other potential candidate. I agree with many of his points of view, but leaving Afghanistan right now would not be the right move. It would put the Afghan people in a worse position than when they were under Taliban rule. Once their government is capable of governing and policing their land, we will leave. Bush said it, Obama said it, and all the military leaders have said it. That’s how it will happen.

Mr. Paul needs to expound on his plans rather than just spew the expected conservative rhetoric of lower taxes and lower spending. His views on the Fed (with which I strongly agree) are what really set him apart and will probably keep him from getting the Republican nomination, unfortunately. He needs to put more information out there about the HOW he plans to do rather than the WHAT he plans to do. I think the first candidate that presents a good plan will get the nomination and will defeat Obama in 2012. I would like to see Ron Paul on the ballot.

Our domestic policy needs to take precedence over foreign policy. That’s something else I strongly agree with Ron Paul about. We need to stop supporting everyone else while we have so many problems in our own borders, including our borders!

I had read over the years that Bin Laden had nothing to do with 9/11. Hard to know what’s true. We are lied to so much by our elected officials..and the MSM. Anyway, here’s a part of an interview from 2001.

Full text of September 2001 Pakistani paper’s “exclusive” interview with Usamah Bin-Ladin

Ummat (in Urdu), Karachi, 28 September 2001, pp. 1 and 7.

Following is the interview in full detail:

Ummat: You have been accused of involvement in the attacks in New York and Washington. What do you want to say about this? If you are not involved, who might be?

Usamah [Osama bin Laden]: In the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the most merciful. Praise be to Allah, Who is the creator of the whole universe and Who made the earth as an abode for peace, for the whole mankind. Allah is the Sustainer, who sent Prophet Muhammad for our guidance. I am thankful to the Ummat Group of Publications, which gave me the opportunity to convey my viewpoint to the people, particularly the valiant and Momin true Muslim people of Pakistan who refused to believe in lie of the demon.

I have already said that I am not involved in the 11 September attacks in the United States. As a Muslim, I try my best to avoid telling a lie. I had no knowledge of these attacks, nor do I consider the killing of innocent women, children, and other humans as an appreciable act. Islam strictly forbids causing harm to innocent women, children, and other people.

Such a practice is forbidden ever in the course of a battle. It is the United States, which is perpetrating every maltreatment on women, children, and common people of other faiths, particularly the followers of Islam. All that is going on in Palestine for the last 11 months is sufficient to call the wrath of God upon the United States and Israel.

There is also a warning for those Muslim countries, which witnessed all these as a silent spectator. What had earlier been done to the innocent people of Iraq, Chechnya, and Bosnia?

Only one conclusion could be derived from the indifference of the United States and the West to these acts of terror and the patronage of the tyrants by these powers that America is an anti-Islamic power and it is patronizing the anti-Islamic forces. Its friendship with the Muslim countries is just a show, rather deceit. By enticing or intimidating these countries, the United States is forcing them to play a role of its choice. Put a glance all around and you will see that the slaves of the United States are either rulers or enemies of Muslims .

The US has no friends, nor does it want to keep any because the prerequisite of friendship is to come to the level of the friend or consider him at par with you. America does not want to see anyone equal to it. It expects slavery from others. Therefore, other countries are either its slaves or subordinates.

However, our case is different. We have pledged slavery to God Almighty alone and after this pledge there is no possibility to become the slave of someone else. If we do that, it will be disregardful to both our Sustainer and his fellow beings. Most of the world nations upholding their freedom are the religious ones, which are the enemies of United States, or the latter itself considers them as its enemies. Or the countries, which do not agree to become its slaves, such as China, Iran, Libya, Cuba, Syria, and the former Russia as received .

Whoever committed the act of 11 September are not the friends of the American people. I have already said that we are against the American system, not against its people, whereas in these attacks, the common American people have been killed.

According to my information, the death toll is much higher than what the US government has stated. But the Bush administration does not want the panic to spread. The United States should try to trace the perpetrators of these attacks within itself; the people who are a part of the US system, but are dissenting against it. Or those who are working for some other system; persons who want to make the present century as a century of conflict between Islam and Christianity so that their own civilization, nation, country, or ideology could survive. They can be any one, from Russia to Israel and from India to Serbia. In the US itself, there are dozens of well-organized and well-equipped groups, which are capable of causing a large-scale destruction. Then you cannot forget the American Jews, who are annoyed with President Bush ever since the elections in Florida and want to avenge him.

Then there are intelligence agencies in the US, which require billions of dollars worth of funds from the Congress and the government every year. This funding issue was not a big problem till the existence of the former Soviet Union but after that the budget of these agencies has been in danger.

We support you Dr. Paul I pray you will be our next president, hopefully America will wake up and realize that we need you!!

  • Islam IS responsible for 9/11. Like it or not. It is the most dastardly form of misguided humanity, a religion. It’s values and goals are clearly pointed out in the Quran written by it’s twisted and perverted “prophet” Muhammad. Ignorin’ and justifyin’ it won’t make it go away nor lessen the danger it poses. I do believe in the liberty to make your own decisions, even stupid decisions, I also believe it is your responsibility to suffer the consequences of those decisions. The consequence of an attempt at world domination should not be shrugged shoulders. However, our military steps have indeed been what Obama, I mean Osama predicted. He was counting on weakness and stupidity reinforced by liberal mentality and that’s exactly what we’re seeing. Don’t keep driving fencing spikes with a tac hammer.

I’m sorry, but that isn’t how it works Mr. Paul.

  • doogleandalix

When will people wake up – the media controls these elections . Always follow the money trail – it is ALWAYS about money and power . A lot of people would lose a lot of money if Ron Paul was elected so the media’s goal is to make people think ROn is a lunatic, a fringe candidate , that he cannot win , make him a joke, etc.
I agree with about 99% of what he has to say which is about 88 % more than I have aever agreed with another candidate . He CAN WIN ! Just Vote and don;t be fooled.

Now that Bin Laden is dead, will the government turn off the Patriot Act?

The wagons have been circled; however there are many circles around the wagons–here defined as us, citizens of the U.S. This is the result of 200 years of encirclement, with end result being ‘divided and conquered’. Those with the real power cannot be identified because their names (families) are unrecognizable. The resources of the U.S.A. have been plundered in war and idiotic political agendas in ways no different than Weimar, Portugese, Dutch, British, French, Austro-Hungarian, Spaniard, Persian empires. Good-bye, America! is the title of a book written in Europe. Of course, they know a little of being duped not once, not twice, but many times over 500 years. In summary then the world’s greatest has reaped what is has sown overtly and covertly worldwide in support of repressive regimes, rigged elections, assassinations. “What ye sow, ye shall reap.” And God bless the U.S. of A. to quote Obama; we shall need it.
