Ron Paul: I appreciate you holding these hearing. You know, since World War II we’ve embarked in the wrong direction. We’ve been fighting all these wars with no declarations. So the War-Power issue is a key issue, and hopefully we can get to the bottom of it and not expand this power. But I think we get a pretty good idea about where the executive branch comes from, and I’m not so sure it would be unique for one party or the other. But the current office of the legal council to our president has said that it was necessary, it was okay to go to war to defend the credibility of the United Nations Security Council. I think that is an outrage. We’re supposed to be defending the constitution, not the United Nations Security Council. But this is not new, we did it in Korea, we ignore it sometimes, now we ignore it in Libya. The War powers resolution, which was set up in 1973, was supposed to curtain this. Technically, it was deeply flawed, but it actually legalized war for 60 days, which always drifts into 90 days, and even our presidents ignore that. So this is a mess, and you know, it’s not all that complicated. Why do we complicate this for ourselves unless it’s deliberate? Because we have a law, the law is called the constitution. We’re not supposed to go to war unless there’s a declaration. We’ve been fighting this a long time and the American people are sick and tired of it, it’s draining us, it’s draining us financially, and now we’re into … how many wars are we in now? Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, now Libya. We don’t even know to the extent to how much we’re involved in these countries. So we in the Congress demand or should demand our responsibilities again. It should be up to us when we go to war and not to the executive branch.

I don’t think Ron Paul would be as remarkable as people would think he is in terms of attempting to restore the rights of constitution just to establish an entirely desireable utopia. Just for the record if he didn’t understood the extent of various principles of constitution concepts then he wouldn’t have a personal problem by agreeing to conform to a Zionist propaganda.

I had respect for Dr. Paul. He is a Gentleman and presents himself with class & dignity. I lost that respect for Dr. Paul when I learned he, as an intern, watched a baby be cut from his/her mothers’ belly, thrown in a bucket on the floor, and put in a corner to die while they all watched. What prevented him from taking that LIVE, CRYING baby out of that trash can and walking a few steps over to the Intensive Care Unit and saving it? He’s lost my respect

What? That was decades ago and before he was converted to the pro-life side. Additionally, how do you know what happened in that situation? The medical facility would have forcibly prohibited him from rescuing the baby. I cannot imagine this being a reason to not support him; we are not looking for perfection, are we?

On July 24, 1929, the Senate ratified the Kellogg-Briand Pact. It has never been repealed, and so according to Article VI of the constitution remains the supreme law of the land. It thus remains illegal to use war as an instrument of foreign policy, even if Congress does officially declare it. A reservation in the ratification allows us to declare war when doing so is required for our nation’s self defense, but there is nothing to justify going to war to defend a UN security council resolution.

God, I fucking hate when people say that we should just tax the rich to solve our debt crisis. I mean sure we should increase the tax rate on long term capital gains, but the top 5% pay half of the income tax in this country. The top 10% pick up 68% of the tab. When is it enough? Should it be 80%? 90%? Fuck it, 100%?

Before I did know about Ron Paul. Now I have research Ron Paul for 2 months and have to say that I will vote in the GOP and I will contribute to his campaign and I get out and speak about him. I am a US. Marine and totally agree with his outlook and policies. Some seem a little wild on the surface but when you break them down they make complete sense. God Bless the USA and let’s get back to being the ‘GOOD GUYS’.

It’s completely true. The war powers resolution is a major weakening point of our system of checks and balances. Our executive branch’s hands have been allowed to go too much into the proverbial cookie jar of the other branches. Ron Paul can help get us back to glory imo.
