Ron Paul: End All The Unconstitutional Wars!

Holding the President Accountable on Libya

by Ron Paul

Last week, more than 70 days after President Obama sent our military to attack Libya without a congressional declaration of war, the House of Representatives finally voted on two resolutions attempting to rein in the president. This debate was long overdue, as polls show Americans increasingly are frustrated by congressional inaction. According to a CNN poll last week, 55 percent of the American people believe that Congress, not the president, should have the final authority to decide whether the U.S. should continue its military mission in Libya. Yet for more than 70 days Congress has ignored its constitutional obligations and allowed the president to usurp its authority.

Finally, Congressman Dennis Kucinich was able to bring to the floor a resolution asserting that proper constitutional war power authority resides with Congress. His resolution simply stated that “Congress directs the President to remove the United States Armed Forces from Libya by not later than the date that is 15 days after the date of the adoption of this concurrent resolution.”

Opponents of the withdrawal resolution said the 15 day deadline was too abrupt. But as I pointed out during debate, the president attacked Libya abruptly – he didn’t even bother to consult Congress – so why can’t he order an end to military action just as abruptly? When members of Congress took an oath of office to defend the Constitution, we did not pledge to defend it only gradually, a little bit at a time. On the contrary, we must defend it vigorously and completely from the moment we take that oath. I was pleased that 87 Republicans were able to put the Constitution first and support this resolution.

House Speaker John Boehner offered his own resolution on the same day, which declared that Congress would not support the insertion of US ground troops into Libya. Although this unfortunately was far from adequate to satisfy our constitutional obligations, it certainly was a step in the right direction and I am pleased that it passed in the House. Just days before Speaker Boehner’s resolution, an amendment to the defense authorization act prohibited the president from using any funds in the bill to insert US troops into Libya. A separate amendment last week prohibiting any funds appropriated to the Department of Homeland Security from being used to attack Libya came within just a handful of votes from passing. All of these votes demonstrate that members of Congress increasingly understand that our foreign wars are deeply unpopular with their constituents. We are broke, and the American people know it. They expect Congress to focus on fixing America’s economic problems, rather than rubber stamping yet another open-ended military intervention in Libya.

I believe these resolutions and amendments indicate that the tide is turning in the right direction. I am confident we will see Congress move toward ending our unconstitutional wars. The American people are demanding no less. The president’s attack on Libya was unconstitutional and thus unlawful. This policy must be reversed.

Take a look back to Woodrow Wilson, the President who signed off on the FED and the Revenue Act of 1913 (to make sure the people are taxed to pay interest to the FED). He ran on the platform that he would keep us out of WW1. I guess when he vastly expanded the power and influence of private banks it never occurred to him how profitable wars are. It's been the same story ever since. If there is profit in it, America goes to war and pays for it with American lives and prosperity.
We are very fortunate to have Ron Paul, a man who can see that it doesn't have to be this way. Nothing would help America more than to have him as our President.
But on a practical note, it's going to take a lot more than just showing up at the polls and casting our votes. The electoral vote decides the Presidency and the delegate vote decides the primaries. The popular vote is basically a public survey. It is absolutely imperative that we write to our U.S. Representatives and Senators and make it clear who we want for President. It would also be a good idea to write to the newspapers, the RNC and any prominent Republicans and even Democrats. We can't expect them to guess about these things. Let the people who actually decide who gets the nomination and the Presidency know we want Ron Paul and we support his views.
Make it clear! Leave no doubt! It’s very important!

    No Win War???

The New American for November 9, 2009, has an interesting article on General Barry McCaffrey's statement that the US "faces 10 more years of war in Afghanistan" and that the US should "focus upon a long and expensive nation-building process for Afghanistan's tribal culture." There seems to be a mindset in the establishment for the US to maintain a long term presence in the MidEast.

For a long time, the US has operated in the region through hidden agendas. In his book, The New World Order, Mr. Pat Robertson, states that George Bush 1 suggested that the fate of Kuwait was not the main issue, "launching the New World Order was the main thing." Mr. Robertson further writes, "By words and by silence, the United States flashed Saddam Hussein a green light" ... to move into Kuwait and suggests this was used as a pretext for the 1st Gulf War...the implication is that Saddam was entraped with Green Light Diplomacy but there was a much larger agenda(hidden) for moving against Hussein...........

For the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the evidence suggests that the US and its allies are not doing all that can be done to win this war and there is some agenda for prolonging this conflict.

The Advocate quotes Hillary Clinton(Dec. 7, 2009, p. 5A), stating it is "hard to believe" that no one in Islamabad knows where the al-Qaida leaders are hiding and couldn't get them "if they really wanted to."

In the aftermath of 9.11, the bombing of the wrong escape route out of Afghanistan into Pakistan and the nighttime airlift by the US of the Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives that were allowed to escape(The New Yorker, Jan 28, 2002, p. 36); Gary Berntsen, the head of the CIAs team at Tora Bora said they tracked bin Laden and (he) "...could have been caught."(Newsweek, Aug 15, 2005, p. 5); There is evidence that the Pakistani ISI is funding the Taliban and knows where they live but dont arrest them.(Time, Nov. 29, 2004, p. 44)

There is a strategy by the Pakistani government "...which pays tribes and insurgent networks to attack each other with a goal of preventing any one group from getting too strong".(US News, Oct 13/Oct 20, 2008, p. 24)(a strategy used by the Brits) Pakistani Ambassador, Haqqani presents evidence in his book that the Pakistani military and ISI make "...the pretense of arresting militants in order to get funds from Washinton. But it never shut down the networks."(Newsweek, May 11/May 18, 2009, p. 29)

The CIA never takes a junior partner role with any of these groups and we have to assume wants this to continue. The New York Times(Oct. 27, 2009) reports that Karzai's brother is on the CIAs payroll and is a suspected player in the opium trade which finances the Taliban.

All of this only contributes to a more chaotic situation which feeds a hidden agenda for a "no win war" and prolonged conflict at the expense of American boys and girls lives!!

    US FUNDS THE TALIBAN????

One of the most important issues today is the war in Afghanistan-Pakistan and the fact that US
Military Aid to Pakistan is being used to fund the Pakistani ISI which is in turn funding Taliban
and Al Quada fighters. While this has been reported sporadically in the media for whatever
reason political pundits on the left and right have effectively ignored this issue.

Joe Klein in an article for Time, August 9, 2010, p. 19, has written an article that every American
citizen should go to their library and read, he writes,

“The commanders are unanimous in their belief that the ISI is running the show….And so,
despite professions of alliance with the US by Pakistan’s then dictator Pervez Musharraf, a
decision was made to keep the Taliban alive. A spigot of untargeted military aid from the George
    W. Bush Administration helped fund the effort. A commander of the vicious Haqqani Taliban
network tells Waldman that their funding comes from ‘the Americans–from them to the
Pakistani military, and then to us.’ Waldman reports that the commander receives from the
Pakistanis ‘a reward for killing foreign soldiers, usually $4000 to $5000 for each soldier killed’”.

American tax dollars if not directly, then indirectly are being used to fund the Taliban and put
a bounty on American boys and girls head… Makes one wonder why the establishment right
or left is not reporting on this? If the right is covering for
the mistakes of the Bush administration…why is the establishment left not reporting on this???
…this is the most important issue of the day…we will never win a war where if not directly then
indirectly the US is funding the opposition!!!!

Obama has to step down! America needs a regime change.
Is there anyone left who still thinks that Barack Obama is some kind of improvement over George W. Bush?
Probably two types still think so. 1) Those to whom color matters a lot; 2) Those who are very impressed by the ability to put together grammatically correct sentences.
It certainly can't have much otherwise to do with intellect or intelligence.

    - This is the way all Americans should feel about this. We need a nationwide re-awakening of political values and interest in supporting our Constitution and reining in an out of control, rogue Government that no longer wants to answer to the people. Remember, the Constitution stipulates that the Government's powers are limited and defined, while the powers of the people and the states are NOT. We are the masters, not the servants.

It's time to remind government who is in charge.

Ron Paul truly understands how freadom works. I for one wish to be as free as the constitution allows. I am tired of paying a government to protect me from myself. I am tired of tradeing my freedoms for imagined safety. The Patriot act is criminal. The war on drugs is a joke. Our forign wars are a lie. Our deficit and governments reaction to it is outragious. These are truly dark days we are living in but their is hope in Ron Paul. I believe this may be the one Ron! Stick to the platform youve spoke from sence the begining. Let the big government republicans hang themselves. Your views sell them selves because they are not only constitutional rights they are god given rights. GO RON GO!!!

The Founding Fathers pledged "our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor". It will take nothing less today. Unless we are willing to go big we may as well stay home and wait for the worst. Let's just do it. Give generously of your time, talents and money.
Let's just do it. Our lives, our futures and our dreams are on the line.

If you want to help RP, stop targeting Obama, you should instead targeting Mitt Romney. I really don't get why people keep targeting the wrong guy. The biggest challenge for RP is to win the primary, and Romney is obviously going to win. If by chance RP wins the primary, Obama would crumble automatically before him.

The ONLY hope of Idiot-America NOT re-electing Obama is that (hopefully, but sadly) we will be in the midst of the coming Great Depression, and will perhaps realize that the ol' "hope and change" thing really wasn't all it was made up to be by the presstitutes, who bought Obama's BS lock, stock, and barrel

Watched Bush speak. Watched Obama speak.......and I sit there and ask myself; "How can America be THIS STUPID to believe either of these idiots"?

Ya' think MAYBE NOW, it's time for a change?

I wonder if America is smart enough to vote this man in & TRULY CHANGE OUR DIRECTION?

Bush(es), Clinton, Bush - AGAIN (what a moron & a murderer), and now Obama; A slick & very dangerous puppet

How is it people like these get elected? America soooooooooo desperately needs a change, not the "hope and change" garbage that was sold

Obama HAD to attack and do the bankster's bidding; Kadafi was about to mint the African Dinar, and would be the only accepted currency for oil
