News Anchor: FEMA is once again in the spotlight as an agency that is directed to offer federal disaster relief. Texas Congressman and presidential candidate, Ron Paul, says the program is inefficient and should be scrapped. Joining us now by phone is Congressman Ron Paul. Congressman, welcome, it’s great to have you here today.

Ron Paul: Thank you.

News Anchor: At a time when the Gulf is being hit by a tropical storm and is still cleaning up from Hurricane Irene, are you suggesting that FEMA is helping to ruin the economy?

Ron Paul: No, I haven’t said that, and I haven’t called for the immediate abolishment of FEMA, so I think that’s a little bit of misrepresentation. But when I’m asked whether I think they are very efficient at doing their job or whether we ever should have had it, the answer is no. But the hurricanes have hit our coast, I don’t vote for that insurance because I think the insurance invites more people to take risky behavior and put their houses where they shouldn’t be. But I’d try to make the program work, I’d like to make it efficient enough to do the job. But it has no money, it’s 20 million dollars in debt and all we have to do is look at the history of FEMA along with coast, you know, whether it was Katrina or when …

chuck norris wants to run as ron pauls VICE president, thats how good ron is.

  • DennisfromDC

Why would we need to abolish an organization tasks with responding to natural disasters. I understand it has problems, but those are fixable. I think thats the difference in rhetoric between liberals and conservatives, one sees government that can be improved upon and continue to grow, and one that see government as a inherently inadequate. Take that into consideration at the voting booth, not wether you want a beer with the guy or gal or not.

The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.

    WHAT IF ?

The National Guard is busy getting their asses shot off in foreign countries. They are busy fighting for the bankers and the oil companies. In theory they should be here but our corrupt killing govt. needs all the help they can get fighting in wars as I said for the bankers and oil boys. Many many things are out of order and no one seems to notice.

  • GamingLogics

Its all good people supporting him but you really do need to go out and vote for him, whats the point in supporting if you don’t vote. Vote Ron Paul 2012!

  • vic4rp

Another smug foxnews anchor. Why do they all have such evil within?

  • TheTrollTime

I think Ron Paul meant to say the military should instead of being in war. or i know some side in his mind said it and didn’t come out there.

  • masonhales

title is misleading..he didn’t say anything about the national guard

  • darezaa

Consider the title to this video, it makes a lot of sense. Other countries within our military power do this. China, rather than invading other countries has a military which helps restore anything of this nature which happens to their homeland. I think it’s a very respectable thing to do, and sends a message to other countries. Look up China’s military and see how dedicated and well trained they are. It will really help you look at them in a more positive way (if not already).

Ron Paul passionately excoriates preemptive war doctrine – wants the US out of the UN – wants the elimination of the Federal Reserve – resists the globalist agenda – Objects to US forces occupying over 100 countries – calls for an end to unnecessary foreign aid – Supports the right to keep and bear arms, homeschooling, and the Sanctity of Life Act. I sent MONEY!
Ron Paul is a CONSTITUTIONALIST who has my vote!

  • tommy0135

Um… why was Dr. Paul cut off??

  • Quindal

FEMA’s intended directive was never to oversee or care for events of natural disaster, note the name, Federal Emergency Management Agency, it’s there to manage the federation in the event of emergency, and as such has received much training and facility to manage the people of the federation. It has no means or ability to care for people in danger from natural disaster because that’s not what it’s for.
To summarize, FEMA is enacted and maintained to take care of people, not to care for them.

  • PeoplePower

Fema sux, using the “draconian policy” some folks were arrested for using a raft in the floods.

    Go Ron Paul 🙂

  • dataphreak

I was in the national guard. We sat around doing not shit. I wish we had been deployed for rescue operations. (Yes, i was sitting on base even during katrina.) We were a networking batalion. The only time we were deployed, we were deployed to do MP work checking ID’s at the gates. Waste of taxpayers dollars if you ask me.
