News Anchor: FEMA is once again in the spotlight as an agency that is directed to offer federal disaster relief. Texas Congressman and presidential candidate, Ron Paul, says the program is inefficient and should be scrapped. Joining us now by phone is Congressman Ron Paul. Congressman, welcome, it’s great to have you here today.

Ron Paul: Thank you.

News Anchor: At a time when the Gulf is being hit by a tropical storm and is still cleaning up from Hurricane Irene, are you suggesting that FEMA is helping to ruin the economy?

Ron Paul: No, I haven’t said that, and I haven’t called for the immediate abolishment of FEMA, so I think that’s a little bit of misrepresentation. But when I’m asked whether I think they are very efficient at doing their job or whether we ever should have had it, the answer is no. But the hurricanes have hit our coast, I don’t vote for that insurance because I think the insurance invites more people to take risky behavior and put their houses where they shouldn’t be. But I’d try to make the program work, I’d like to make it efficient enough to do the job. But it has no money, it’s 20 million dollars in debt and all we have to do is look at the history of FEMA along with coast, you know, whether it was Katrina or when …

  1. So sad. Because the future records that our National Guards were overseas in wars when the Yellowstone volcano exploded (late 2013,) this means that Ron Paul will not become President. I will still vote for him out of principal. I grieve for this Country and what corruption in our government has done to us. Our government has destroyed America. Sad only... mainly because the corruption and suppression of civil liberties will continue.

  2. Of course people insure their own belongings - but public land should be insured by the city itself. New Orleans can be a nice place to live (I guess..) but that city should appropriately determine their real risk rate of having to rebuild in case of disaster. If they didn't allocate the necessary funds, the city dies and that's that. But wait, now we bailed them out, and history tends to repeat itself. Choose an insurance company that has a history of determining real risk.

  4. would we appreciate your voting for Ron Paul? of course. I'd be a damn liar if i said or made you feel otherwise. However, just make sure you vote FOR YOUR OWN reasons. No one else on this planet can die for you and extend your life double fold until your 150 to 220 years old. No one else's soul is in your body. YOU must deal with whatever consequences or rewards your choices create the results of. When it is your natural time to end, you'll then have a " completion" feeling 😀

  5. it's not about doing us a favor. It's about waking up & realizing that Ron Paul is much more than 95% DIFFERENT from all the candidates ( more polishedticians. Huckelberry hound Mike included) throughout the past 40 or more years. It's about that gut feeling that " well shit i FINALLY have a totally different variable to test a TRULY UNIQUE way of leading our country that we haven't had since usa's beginning". It's like when you fall in love the first REAL time. (You just know)

  6. It should be the state not the feds that take care of disasters in states, but since we pay taxes, DC should release the money we send to them back to our state so we can help ourselves, we don't need the "nanny state" in our lives, we can take care of ourselves, just let us have the funds back that you in DC give away to the dictators around the world!

  7. There are no guarenteed bailouts for these people. FEMA doesnt buy people new boats docks beach homes and other business items. they provided assistance to local until infrestructure is restored. There operations mostly include handing out water/supplies and helping displaced people. Based on your comment you assume there is no risk because of the fed govt, i can assure you your wrong.
Insurance plans have to be bailed out so do combined pension funds.

  12. Key words that Ron Paul uttered sum up the argument-"Fema","history".
This agency has a history of being so incompetent and mismanaged that it could be eliminated tomorrow and probably wouldn't be missed.
Using the National Guard to take up any slack is a great idea.

ncwdane has a great idea about medical staff on the military bases stateside.

  13. With the guaranteed bailouts for shipping, fishing, as you mention, of course they won't take insurance because they have a guarantee. The smarter seller who has to raise prices 1% to cover the insurance costs would be able to long-live and sell more than ever when disasters hit because competitors go bankrupt, and knowing that the government will not bail them out will then make all of the other sellers cover their costs because they don't want to go bankrupt and die.

  16. I also believe that when we are NOT in a major war
that our military Bases shouls have a medical building on their perimiters
open to the public since the Dr's & Medics are all on staff anyways & getting paid w/ our money, so it would be good Practice for them & cut down on the nickle & dime visits to the DR's that drive up health cost & insurance,
they should even be able to handle broken bones & car accidents, same Injuries in Battle just have the entrance on the Public side of the building
