I find it hilarious that people don’t see he’s turned back on his supposed consistency to backpedal and support Reagan, which was his reason for temporarily leaving the Repubs to join the Libertarians because he wished to dissociate himself from Reagan’s war-mongering, tax-raising establishment. My impression is that Paul tolerates President Reagan. Most GOP folks adore Reagan. Paul has the very unique point of being one of few congressmen to support Reagan’s first failed presidential run in 1976. He may not agree with Reagan’s politics, but letting the country know Paul supported Reagan before he “went mainstream” can be a very valuable tool in gaining support.
Heck, telling my grandma the above helped convince her to support Ron Paul. So why wouldn’t it work on a few million others?
