Paul makes history in first-in-nation voting state
With 99% of precincts reporting, Ron Paul came in a strong third at the Iowa caucuses, gaining 21% of the vote.
- Mitt Romney 30,015 votes (25%)
- Rick Santorum 30,007 votes (25%)
- Ron Paul 26,219 votes (21%)
- Newt Gingrich 16,251 votes (13%)
- Rick Perry 12,604 votes (10%)
- Michele Bachmann 6,073 votes (5%)
- Jon Huntsman 745 votes (1%)
The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign is celebrating a great victory with its strong top-three finish at the Iowa Caucus. Below please find comments from Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton:
“The Ron Paul campaign is celebrating a great victory tonight.
There were three tickets out of Iowa, and Ron Paul earned one of them.
One of the three tickets, the one belonging to Rick Santorum, is a dead-end due to Santorum’s weak fundraising and lack of national campaign organization.
This is now a two way race between establishment candidate Mitt Romney and the candidate for real change, Ron Paul.
Ron Paul has a top notch national organization, tremendous fundraising prowess, and unequaled enthusiasm among his volunteers and supporters.
Dr. Paul has taken the first step towards earning the delegates it will take to be the GOP nominee and is the only candidate not named Mitt Romney with the ability to do so.
Ron Paul is now off to New Hampshire, South Carolina, Louisiana, Nevada, Maine, North Dakota, Washington, Colorado, and beyond.
See you on the campaign trail.”

Baffling, stupid and naive to even think Paul would post that.
That said, he’d better monitor what is posted under his name, or they’ll screw up for him AGAIN, like with those newsletters.

In a warm climate, no man will labour for himself who can make another labour for him. This is so true, that of the proprietors of slaves a very small proportion indeed are ever seen to labour. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever: that considering numbers, nature and natural means only, a revolution of the wheel of fortune, an exchange of situation, is among possible events: that it may become probable by supernatural interference!

I watched all of Ron Paul’s youtube videos on debates and interviews on air. I am impressed with his consistency over many years. I want to help him out, but how can I in Chicago? Where are the Chicago caucus voting at. I have at least 10 people that will vote for Ron Paul or whoever I convince them of. I am lower middle class with limited funds. I can only preach Ron Paul’s ideas to those around me. How can I help Ron Paul get a fair shake in the media darkness he gets? I really want prosperity for our country with Ron Paul’s ideas. He makes the only sense out there. I believe him to be true to his word because of his past statements are still the same in the present without flip- flopping.

@RonPaulandProsperityFan Hi,
With limited funds, you can join the phone bank 2012 and call from your home prospective Ron Paul voters. Check the Ron Paul official website or the Ron Paul 2012 Daily. Another inexpensive way is to place bumper stickers on your car. You can purchase that from the official website under products or you can order from the RonPaul Products.com. You can make your own banners or yard signs. You can become a precinct captain.
Welcome to supporting Ron Paul. Here’s a good video about Ron Paul and share it.

Hi guys, I’m from Townsville, Australia and although I obviously can’t show my support by voting, I wanted everyone to know that Ron Paul has a large following here as well. Unfortunately our media follows the same example of bias as MSM everywhere else. If my government (which was decided by three independents) is going to blindly follow the US, I’d prefer they followed Ron Paul.

All I desire is individual freedom, free enterprise, fiscal responsibility, no further economic control over our lives & currency by the FED, and end to foreign interventionism (and the concomitant saving of lives and money), and an adherence to the Bill of Rights … for ALL Americans regardless of national origin, religion, or economic status. IS there anything WRONG with such a desire?
If somone says there IS something wrong with my desire, then I request 2 things:
1) Tell me HOW my desire is WRONG, and
2) Tell me explicitly WHAT you (that someone) would desire instead.
I am anxious to learn how/if I am wrong and WHAT would be MORE desirable.
For those who SHARE my above desire, then the ONLY candidate who could help to achieve such a desire is DR. RON PAUL. Thus, I support him not for his “party affiliation” or for ANY OTHER REASON other than I believe he also has the above desire for all Americans.

You would imagine that those are values to be embraced, however, as you know, not everyone embraces true values, just like not everyone embraces the laws of the land… It is sad but true… there are those that simply want to embrace evil and take life the hard way around… Ron Paul obviously represents true American Values… some people love chaos and contempt… there are also some people that are spoiled rotten, that have become comfortable with their handouts and leverage… afraid that they will lose their positions of comfort… Federal employees that would be cut, school teachers that are being coerced into believing they will be cut, government run programs… The problem that many haven’t come to grips with, is we are capsizing, and the party is over… Ron Paul is the only obvious life support system we have in place currently… a purest with the gumption to return us to our roots and willing to take on the elitist in doing so… The holdouts won’t realize this until it is over! They will be the ones crying the loudest!

@GaryNolan So true Gary. I am 100% with you. Unfortunately, SO MANY Americans have forgotten that we CAN NOT have freedom and equality in America. We have such an entitlement driven society that even the news media is on the side of the “99%”. The class warfare needs to stop before every last job leaves and goes to China. What is even scarier is that I see this entitlement especially in young people. We have the best capibilities to share and spread conservative values with the internet and yet there seems to still be a mass bias against us that is still growing. We need to reward the best and brightest here in America with policy that allows them to succeed- not allienate them for working hard and achieving something. We also need a monitary policy that allows people that have worked hard their whole lives to keep that and not allow the value of their dollars to drop!! This “anything to maintain growth” strategy by the FED is rediculous. The longer it goes on the harder the eventual fall will be.

Agree.
He should also do a better job of explaining the reasons he has for cutting the 5 departments. For instance, the department of Education……he should elaborate that since the start of this department US test scores have dropped in all categories (math, science etc) and the cost per pupil had more than doubled. So, twice the money with half the results. Standardized testing is a waste of time and money. After 12 years of public education our kids should be a lot smarter and prepared for the world at large.
He should explain that if we weren’t paying so much federal tax that the states could tax for the difference. The money for education doesn’t have to leave the state.
Otherwise, people will believe that he is anti education.
Go Ron Paul. Time to take the gloves off.

Actually man, I did a bit of further research, and while it is clear that the establishment wants to confuse and obfuscate the actual process, it seems the state delegates are not awarded until national. County delegates were elected at the Caucus and apparently Ron Paul feels pretty confident that he will get more delegates.

I would be happy to look into this further for you if you’d like to point out specifically where you think there is a problem. Don’t forget to consider that vote for OTHER along with the big 3. As long as a vote total doesn’t go down for a particular candidate including OTHER, how can we be sure there is conspiracy here? Please be careful looking for conspiracy around every corner folks. As I said earlier elsewhere:
I kept track of the vote, I don’t know how it is counted but something is really weird. I don’t know if it is statistically possible as we know what the establishment prefers. When they publish a poll, with 1,000 people polled they usually give an error margin of 1%. So accounting for the fact that the first results that I had concerned about 15,000 people the error margin should be much less than 1%. The funny aspect is when you substract the number of votes to get just the incremental part between two results, at some point Paul was even bellow 20% for the extra slices.
So here what we had:
when 15.9% of the vote was counted
paul 3821 24%

Even if Paul got support from democrats or independants in the primary, how is that a bad thing? If the choice is Obama or Ron Paul, I am confident that 100% of inteligent republicans would do the right thing and vote for the GOP candidate. The key will be getting out of the primary. I think more ammo against Romney will be needed other then the lack of social conservatism as shown by his health care program and flip flop on the life issue. Most voters care about the economy this year and rightly so. Not to defend Romney, but at least his explanation on the flip flops makes a little sense. We have to dig deeper on this, perhaps take a foot note from the other establishment candidate that fell- Neut. By showing the public he took money from Fannie and Freddie he quickly lost support as he action proved he is ONLY out for personal financial gain and power and not for the rights of Americans. Maybe we can attack Romney from where his contributions are coming from or dig up some stuff from he corprate days.

@Scott R Yeah and I read on the RonPaul2012 web site that 48% of the people under 30 who voted in the Iowa caucus voted for Ron Paul, most of them do not consider themselves Republican, yet registered Republican to vote for Dr. Paul.
I’m the same way but in my 50s. I am a libertarian from decades ago – even was going door to door handing out leaflets for Ed Clark for President in 1980 when I was 21. After my state’s primary, I will change my registration from Republican to Libertarian. It would be interesting if tens of thousands of people did the same. It would indicate people registered Republican only because of Ron Paul, and will gladly change to whatever their other party was when they are done with the Republican primaries. It will be a slap in the face of the mainstream neo conservatives.

Okay guys, your man came in third place. Usually a third place finish is quite admirable, but you guys shot your mouths off about winning, so third place now looks pretty lame. A full fifty percent voted for Santorum and Romney.
And now this: according to Langer Research, the public opinion polling firm of ABC News, a full six in ten Paul voters were not actual Republicans. Well duh. Do you think it might be time to drop the stupid meme about Paul being the “only real Republican”?
https://twitter.com/#!/zbyronwolf/statuses/154375599970992128
Okay, so you cheated. You brought in ringers. Sixty percent of your people weren’t even Republicans, they were just there to be spoliers. And you still can’t get more than 22% of the vote? If you’re going to cheat, at least win.
By my calculations, Ron Paul’s proportion of the vote would have been about eight percent if he hadn’t brought in all of those ringers to cheat for him.

@ScrappyDoo Hey Scrappy – this is EXACTLY why Ron Paul can win.
Let’s face it – no Republican can win a general election without Independents and Democrats. Period. Can’t happen. The fact that people have taken the time to “cross over” should tell you something about Paul’s momentum.
Most of this country is apathetic politically. To actually awaken people and make them active, as Paul’s campaign has done, is nothing short of astounding. He got the same amount of delegates as the Repub groomed candidate (by that, I mean Romney).
Dems and Indies won’t cross for Romney. Why would they? There’s basically no difference between him and Obama. Ron Paul is a sane voice among warmongers; no small feat given the fact that he stands alone against the onslaught. What a great humanitarian. What a principled man.
I am a registered Democrat who voted Green in the last presidential election. I am registering Republican to vote for Ron Paul in the California primary.
And he can win it.

@ScrappyDoo Hey ScrappyDoo, just wondering who you support and why. Also, where do you get your data on exactly how many we have in Israel? I am interested in seeing exactly where the 700 billion is going. Anyone that thinks that there is no room to cut there is misinformed. I actually do think that we as Ron Paul supporters need to do a better job of debating these issues, and with many folks in general, responding to someone on the opposit side of an issue without taking it as a personal insult. Sometimes it is just a healthy debate and an opportunity to learn. That said, I stand by Ron Pauls views that we need to uphold the constitution, shrink the government, have a balanced budget. Also his fight against the patriot act should be praised by all. If you’ve ever read 1984 you would see why.

People who don’t vote for Paul will get what they deserve. Higher Taxes, less freedoms, and ultimately the complete destruction of the United States. Well, for someone who probably never had any real dreams in the first place, I really think that that should be the last thing you should be mentioning right now. I know I’m going to sound a little like Gingrich here, but honestly it’s time that someone paid a little attention, or else you’ll be crying like a baby all throughout this week. Aside from the half of your post that could probably be confused with the comments of a twelve-year-old who just got into his or her rebellious phase, the other half seems like you’re trying to make reasonable sense here but failing miserably. I guess your point now is that Ron Paul’s third place finish in Iowa with 21% of the votes is equivalent to someone polling 5% of the votes. Sorry to say, but I don’t think that opinion from someone who probably never took statistics in college or simply at the high school level is all that accurate. However, if you haven’t blown a load yet, because someone has finally paid real attention to you and promptly disciplined you, consider the fact that Ron Paul got the same amount of candidates as Santorum and Romney because of the virtual tie between them. Of course, you probably don’t know what a delegate is, so let me get to the conclusion, which is that, of course you have a right to say what you will, even though you’re probably in support of a candidate who more than likely wants to hurt that right, or at least won’t defend it, when it comes down to the grit. But you should also remember that whoever you mock has the right to fight back, and, quite frankly, people including myself are getting tired of your obnoxious, childish attitude, and I, or someone else, I’m sure, is going to give you an attitude adjustment. @Dennis Johnson

Maybe we can drag up a thousand junior delegates to beg their parents to think of their futures,
I notice they were rounding Paul down and the others up.

@Vleirmuisen I noticed the same on Drudge. Santorum’s .3 rounded up while Ron Paul’s .95 rounded down. I kept sending them comments until they changed it.

Folks don’t give up. Please keep in mind that Ron Paul has been slowly gaining and has been running in the low 20′s for a while so these numbers should not be a suprise. We MUST take into account all the independants and of course democrats that support him as well that could not take part in the caucus. So how can we get more GOP votes when it seems like we’ve hit a mini ceiling? I believe the greatest challenge will be to fend off these attacks on his foreign policy. While it is easy for most of us to see why we CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT police the world, I am worried that the average semi-misinformed GOP American is more worried about keeping themselves safe and is refusing to come over to our camp. Maybe Paul could compile a specific list of which bases he would close (ie Japan, Germany, ect) Next, he could “forecast” that after a vote from congress that we would definately leave SOME forces in Israel and sprinkled in other places. We could debate on, prioritize, and vote on each location. If support is REQUIRED keep it. We could still cut 50% of the overseas spending and keep enough forces around the world to shoot down any nukes fired at us or our friends. We could then see if relationships with other nations improves. This could all be done to ease the doubts on our safty under Ron Paul. What do you guys think?

@Scott R I don’t think compromising is the answer this was the first state, There is plenty of time for their flaws to be revealed. We should try to educate people on foreign issues and as time goes on more people will come to their senses. We need to remember he had 22% in a republican vote, Santorum won’t keep the christians long. As an independent Paul could draw 60%. 20% from each side. There are also 2/3 of the population who don’t believe in the system at all and don’t vote. Voter fraud is the issue more then the policy. It’s the fact that MSM calls a libertarian a bigot and Santorum was told by God that the christians flipped I think. I think if Ron Paul would do that as well he would get an immediate spike just for that. A god bless America wouldn’t hurt either. What do you think of Junior Delegates? No limits and it’s for the future of their children. I only fear they want the world to be destroyed.

Vleirmuisen I don’t understand why the media has this bias against Ron Paul. It is hard to educate when I keep on having to explain about the stupid newsletter over and over again. I understand the debate on the foreign policy as understanding everything is no simple matter. I think you are being a little generous with your democrat and independant numbers, but, better to be optimisic anyways. The GOP can not underestimate the power that the democrates obtain from buying votes. There are so many superficial Americans that only care about getting their next bailout and too few that care about taking back our rights and tax dollars! The funny thing is we as stupid entitled Americans are being perfectly represented by a president that cares more about golf and vacations then the economy. Maybe the system IS working. haha If he wants everyone to be equal why is he spending millions on that trip? Hypocrit. It is not going to be easy for the GOP to win with Romney if he’s their guy down the road as I suspect many of us Paulians and independants are probably going to end up voting Libratarian again. And for peats sake, we should all need to present ID to vote to ensure a fair vote. I don’t understand why this is such an issue!!! As far as Junior Delegates are you taking a stab at Obama? haha

@Scott R I agree with everything you said, no stab at Obama yet. There is no limit on junior delegates to debate for votes, So hundreds of children could plea for votes hypothetically. Perhaps educating on the constitution would be faster then teaching common sense. Maybe we should abandon the commercial campaign idea and cherry pick the great ones off the internet. The super bowl has the largest audience. I’m confident that there are more disadvantaged people then spoiled. The depopulation project is a scary thought.

Mmmm…yeah. I can imagine that when people find out that he’s a racist loon who thinks the Mossad did the first WTC bombing, he becomes much less attractive as a candidate.
And then people don’t accept your Ron paul approved response because it’s a joke and anybody who has looked into this matter at all knows that the ghostwriter excuse falls to tatters under the tiniest scrutiny.
You do know that he defended those newsletters to the Dallas Morning News in 1996?

@Vleirmuisen@Scott R Now we know really what happened to JFK. I wonder if people with their busy lives will to the research on all of the candidates and not merely rely on the media or stay home? We have one last chance to make our country great once again. We must work doubly hard to make sure Ron Paul wins. And, to make sure his votes are not stolen.

@ScrappyDoo@Scott R This is great Scrappy and thank you for your post. It helps the Paul campaign, more than you know.
Yes, certain things written in the newsletters are very offensive and disturbing. I concur with that. But, then, I sit back and look at Paul’s voting record and his valid argument against the war on Drugs.
Words are hurtful when people use them to marginalize others and delegitimize them. But, I would argue that actions to that end are worse.
The war on drugs has not only victimized people color legally, but as a result, personally, financially and systemically. Personally, because it labels entire communities as “bad” – and people believe it even though it’s not true. Financially because when a person is jailed for a misdemeanor or felony, it severely limits their ability to earn a living afterward. One cannot hold a job that requires any kind of license in most cases and is sentenced to an impoverished life of low paying jobs. Often, the families must go on welfare; it’s a vicious cycle. Systemically, because the poverty traps the whole family into a cycle that is hard to break out of.
So, what is worse, Scrappy? Some hurtful, noxious words in a newsletter of limited circulation or a national program of systemic disenfranchisement for people of color?
Well? I know – why don’t you ask your Black friends what they think?

@Scott R “We MUST take into account all the independants and of course democrats that support him as well that could not take part in the caucus.”
Oh no, they DID. They’re the only reason he didn’t rank down below Perry but above Bachmann.
You know, when you have to depend on Democrats to win, maybe your guy isn’t “the only real Republican.” Codepink supports Ron Paul. So does Arlo Guthrie, the communist folk singer. It must be because he’s a “real conservative”.
“Maybe Paul could compile a specific list of which bases he would close (ie Japan, Germany, ect”
He has. Here’s his specific list: all of them. How’s that for specific?
“Next, he could “forecast” that after a vote from congress that we would definately leave SOME forces in Israel…”
The total number of American soldiers currently serving in Israel is 40. Eighteen of them are Mines, so you can bet that they’re the embassy guards. So minus embassy guards, the total number of US troops in Israel is a whopping twenty-two.
http://siadapp.dmdc.osd.mil/personnel/MILITARY/history/hst0912.pdf
So you’re just misinformed. You have to be if you’re going to support Ron Paul who has a big problem with Israel.

@ScrappyDoo@Scott R Hello again.
I often think that people misunderstand what a “base” in another country actually means.
A base is a footprint; it’s a toe in the water, a thumb in the pie of other countries. A place that we can go back to – basically, a leasehold to invade.
This mindset needs to stop. We shouldn’t be ‘invading’ Israel, or any other country. Our armies are supposed to be for defense, not for preemptive military actions.
Israel has many nuclear weapons and a forced system of conscription. Everyone is a soldier, even the women. All this for a country that doesn’t even have a constitution.
Why do they need us?

@Scott R Scott, I don’t think Paul would do that; one, because it’s giving preference to certain nations over others and, two, quite simply, we can’t afford it.
Ron Paul understands our geopolitical situation quite clearly. Most people don’t because they are spoon fed partisan pablum that substitutes for informed non biased media. Viva la internet!
We simply can’t afford to be abroad. We can’t afford to use our capital to destroy the capital of others. We’re using precious, dwindling resources to destroy the infrastructure of other countries when our infrastructure is crumbling around us. This is insanity and, really, the nexus of the argument to be made.
Ask your Republican friends this, “Which would you rather give up: The bases overseas or your Medicare?” Yes, I know Paul wants to do away with the entitlement programs, but he will honor the commitments made to people who have paid in all of their lives.
I’m focusing on getting Dems to cross over. Obama has failed the anti-war crowd and Black people are doing worse than ever. A quarter century of economic progress has been erased for most people of color due to illegal lending practices and the “war” on drugs. Such nonsense needs to stop.

Moving to Norway may feel nice but may not really change a thing, not in the long run. The US forced Switzerland to disclose bank accounts. US banks are destabilizing the EURO. The US, unchecked, will be able to impose it’s will on the rest of the world – instead of being a model and inspiration of freedom, can do attitude, generosity, creativity and entrepreneurism, all the things that brought me here from Europe. The ground to fight for your freedom is here, nowhere else. The effects of continued US corruption will be felt world wide. THERE IS ONLY ONE REAL ISSUE: MONEY – who controls whom and INFLUENCE / POWER – who buys the decisions.
That gets us talking about the FED and some very powerful people don’t want that. (see youtube dhundrethmonkee http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyN0_4VwUP8 ) Santorum baby issue, heartfelt family stories, all IRRELEVANT. Focus on what is really important – the preservation of freedom, well being and the ability to survive with the constitution intact – and preserve and reinstate the Dollar value.

Fox and Cnn cut off before the Veteran Soldier got to explain why he supports Ron’s foreign policy… Fox just cut him off and when Cnn began to interview him they pulled the plug. Look at the vids put up on youtube before they get taken down. Spread this info. We can’t slack off or Ron won’t get the vote. We need to carry him to the White House, this is a Revolution remember, not your average BS American election.

Yeah, I saw the video of CNN. They were hyping the guy up, as I knew they would. And here’s a soldier who’s AGAINST the war, and you should be too, blah, blah, blah.
Then they lost the feed and now you’re going to make the ridiculous assertion that he was “silenced”.

You attacks seem vague and baseless. I, myself, am not a fan of all of his positions, though I do respect his opinions and understand where they come from.
People, take note. Posters like ScrappyDOO are very important because he/she helps us refine our responses to people when they argue against Paul’s positions.

I thought that the Ron Paul campaign had save guards in place such as taking cell phone pictures of all the tallies before it was called in to their out of state headquarters. Did our picture tallies of each precinct match what was reported to corporate? Your link is an eye opener. I hope an investigation occurs.

I’m shocked. The media once again has raised up another candidate. Rich Santorum what a joke. Wait till the skeltons about Rick Santorum are exposed. The Evanglical vote will be awe struck when they realize what Santorum has voted for and what he supports. He has not addressed the fiscal matters that are destroying our economy. Where is his deficit plan to cut now and not in the future? Every man or woman running is a family person. What does he offer beyond that? He is BIG GOVERNMENT.
Well onward to the next primaries.

Looks like they used Santorum to steal the christian tea party vote, damn shame. Will the live free or die state vote for the holy cusader santorum of flip flop for mitt romney? Oh well we knew Independent was the most likely solution to this party issue, Paul will probably get 60% majority as an independent. We need to recruit the 2/3 million people who don’t vote.
That being said he should have much better luck in liberal states,
The electoral college sucks!

He is also anti-gay, anti-choice, pro-war, pro-prison,pro-church, and Pro-government
Someone please call Jesus tell these people to stop worshiping false idols hallelujah!

Romney will defeat himself, but the voter fraud! it’s terrible.

He later told that he knew several presidents personally
He then ended by telling a joke about taking the names off of tombstones claiming the dead had a right to vote too! This was who was in charge of the counting room. Hard to tell if he counted Ron Paul. No Tivo
