Ron Paul Responds to President Obama’s State of the Union Speech

by Ron Paul

Tonight, President Obama once again showed that he does not represent the fundamental change this country needs. Instead of offering solutions to the problems our country faces, the President was intent on delivering a campaign speech, further dealing in the typical Washington political gamesmanship that has gotten us exactly nowhere close to improving the lives of the American people.

In a speech where much of the rhetoric was devoted to job creation, it was strange that President Obama would brag about his job-destroying national health care plan, Obamacare, and the Dodd-Frank bill, which, contrary to the President’s claims, guarantees future taxpayer bailouts of large institutions. Unfortunately, President Obama’s ‘job creation’ policies amount to little more than continuing to allow government bureaucrats to pick winners and losers, which is a recipe for continued economic stagnation.

President Obama claims to want an economy where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same set of rules. Yet he remains committed to the same old system of debt, deficits, bailouts, and cronyism that created our economic problems. The President speaks of giving us energy independence from unstable nations, yet he refuses to allow the type of development needed to achieve this goal, while at the same time his administration hands out favors to the politically connected – those given to the likes of Solyndra, who fail to produce jobs or energy but succeed in ripping off the taxpayers.

Of course, President Obama refuses to even mention the role the Federal Reserve plays in creating an economic system where some are denied a fair shot or even to support my efforts at bringing transparency to the Federal Reserve. Also not mentioned by President Obama is the very crucial need for reining in spending and balancing the federal budget. What is called by some ‘the greatest threat to our national security’ seems not to be of great importance to this President, although I, like many Americans, believe it to be cause for immediate measures, like the $1 trillion in spending cuts that would take place in my first year as President under my Plan to Restore America.

In the area of foreign policy and civil liberties, President Obama’s rhetoric may be different, but the substance of his polices – as shown by his administration’s defense of the TSA’s treatment of my son, Senator Rand Paul, is hardly ‘change we can believe in.’ No wonder more and more Americans, especially young people, are rejecting the phony alternatives of Obama and establishment Republicans and embracing my campaign to Restore America Now.

  1. I agree with one of the comments that states even though Ron Paul is our choice we should not be thinking of him as a literal savior, I believe with all of my heart that it won't matter one bit who is president of this country if we continue to dishonor GOD and ignore HIS laws. I am on the band wagon for Ron Paul but it frightens me we that we ignore God in this way, the book we should be recommending is the Holy Bible. I realize this is politics and everyone is engrossed in it, but we are making a grave mistake leaving God out of this picture. An opinion...no need for swearing at me or calling me names :)

    • Ron Paul is not leaving God out of the picture. In a country which has no national religion, but instead allows all people to worship in their own way, guaranteed by the Constitution, a President or candidate cannot make religious recommendations. Go to www.ronpaul2012.com and study what ron Paul says about his views on religion.

    • Religion has no place in politics. Moral men don't have to stand behind a book or pulpit, God is with them every step and every choice they make.

    • God's laws were written down by human hands. I believe in my heart that I feel what is right and what is wrong. Obviously if I'm causing pain/anguish to those around me, that does not truly feel right to me. If I care sincerely for others and give happiness and peace, I feel that is right. I don't think a book that was written by human hands does justice to what God's intentions of love and peace are. The only thing that God has written, according to the bible, is the 10 commandments. They were 10 short simple commandments that make logical sense to anyone. Sometimes the wrong people can become in charge and they have and have taken these 10 commandments and have tried to change them in their favor to oppress those who believe in them by adding long "explanations" to them. Once they are oppressed to believe what you want them to, you can start adding anything else you want to and they'll believe you because "you have the connection with God" when they do not.
Handing out Holy Bibles isn't the answer. We should be handing out the US constitution, Declaration of Independence, and the 10 commandments.

  2. It is amazing how few people realize that money that is making capital gains has already been taxed. Think about it this way, when you go out and buy a stock on your own or make an investment (not via a 401K), you are using after tax dollars. The tax on the gain is a tax on top of a tax. The best solution is to drop the normal income tax for everyone to below 15% by cutting spending. Another good idea would be to create a graduated scale for capital gains. ie your first 40K of income via capital gains is tax free. The next 60K is at 5%, next 100K is at 10%, next 100K is at 15% and have that top out around 30% or so. This would be good for normal everyday 9-5 workers investing in stocks, and small buisinesses that aren't making a killing. If Obama TRULY wanted to build from the bottom up, he must understand that small business needs low taxes. I have some concerns still though that if we over-tax the millionaires, less jobs will be created and investments my go overseas. That's why the graduated scale is still my 2nd pick as a compramise to the democrats.

  3. I think Obama demonstrated one very important thing last night: He is excellent in the art of B.S. Unfortunately, this is all it takes for a large majority of people to agree with and support him. If you don't really listen to or understand what he is saying, it sounds pretty good!

I am a stead-fast supporter of Ron Paul, however I do have one criticism, for those who really don't listen to or understand what he is saying, the manner in which he speaks can be somewhat annoying. (I say this out of love).

PLEASE Dr. Paul, try to be more elegant and firm in how you speak in the upcoming debates. You must reach the people that want honey poured in their ear - the billy-goat types with the blank stares (Obama and Romney supporters). They don't have the inclination or capability to understand, but, we need their votes too.

Romney and Gingrich are clowns and no one really wants to support them. They just want Obama out!

Dr. Paul, please change your tone to one of strong leadership rather than someone complaining about things from the side-lines. Your campaign management needs to sharpen up and get with it because you haven't been coming off as a "Presidential type".

I know that it isn't likely that Ron Paul will see this post. If you are reading this and agree, please echo it and perhaps the general gist of this might reach him.

    • I think the way Dr Paul speaks is the TRUTH.

It shows he is humble, passionate about what he speaks and speaks from the heart. No speech writers there.

He is not slick like Romney, nor as eloquent as Gingrich, but he is real and genuine and it shows.

It is time for the American public to wake up and not be seduced by good speeches, like Obama gave, or like Newt or Romney are elocuting. They need to look at substance.

If you believe the POTUS is 'above' us.. then yes, you will subscribe to the fact that he should get a 'presidential salary', a 'presidential palace' and toys 'fit for a king'... only he is NOT A KING.

Ron Paul is the closest thing to a genuine run-of-the-mill all American in congress. He's even suggested reducing the president's salary to the median income of the country ($39,000).

On the other hand if people vote for a 'good speaker' then they will get exactly the kind of president they deserve. Obama is proof of that.

  4. I can't listen to Obama speak. He speaks too well, it's too easy to fall into the rhythm he sets and listen without objectivity. Part of me wishes that Ron Paul had that ability, just to enable him to compete with these other politicians at that game, but for the most part I'm happy to just be able to listen to someone's logic, rather than be swayed by the prettiness of their words and voice.

For Obama's speeches, then, I read the text. It helps to be able to see what he is proposing, and spot the flaws in his reasoning. Yes, this was a campaign speech. He pandered to what people wanted to hear and spun his actions to sound pleasant instead of justifiably alarming. Key issues such as the NDAA bill weren't even mentioned, but he made sure to bring up points that have brought Dr Paul much support. After what he's done to the country, and what his record on promises shows, I simply don't believe any of the good stuff.

We don't need what he's selling. We simply need to be able to make do for ourselves, without having to pay 'the man' every time we turn around, or having to beg permission (and pay extra money) to do business.

So thank you, Dr Paul, for standing up for my right to be my own person and make my own way.

    • Dishonesty!? Dr. Paul is the only one speaking any truth. Everything that I just read in his statement above is honesty. You say that it's not right to want this president out of office. Are we supposed to bow down to his will and just except the direction he's taking us? Watch a little less CNN.

    • Did you even read what Dr. Paul wrote. He didn't blame Obama for everything. He pointed out some of Obama's failed policies and tactics and basically said what most thinking Americans think , "That speech was more of the same rhetoric as years previous".

Blind love for a man will never bring you good things. The best part about supporting Ron Paul is that when he is gone, his ideas will still stand and those ideas will make this country better. Ron Paul supporters like Ron Paul because of his ideas concerning liberty and freedom. I don't just want a good speaker or cool guy in a suit, I want someone who believes in the very ideas that made this country great.

A lot of people need to stop drinking the R or D koolaid and really look at what our government has become. They keep us angry at each other so we don't direct the anger in the right direction, at our tyrannical government!

    • I don't think Dr. Paul is saying that Obama is to blame for ALL the problems this country has, he merely states, correctly in my opinion, that Obama is not doing anything to help ease our troubles, instead just adding to them. He knows that the entire Washington establishment that fights to maintain the status quo is to blame for the mess we have. These problems didn't originate with Obama, Bush or any of the administrations of recent decades, they began in the first half of the 20th century when the government began to make unconstitutional policy. Dr Paul is the only candidate of any party that has a plan to get America back on the track that the founding fathers envisioned and planned for when they wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I find it so hard to believe that everyone can't see this. I worry about how my freedoms( and yours) are being stripped away and what kind of country my Grand and Great-Grand Children will live in. A police state? Big Brother monitoring every move. Wake up America!

I also find it funny that during each of the debates thus far..hen the other candidates are asked a question they all manage to get around to plugging in'its because of obama'""When Ron Paul is asked a question he has real answers and thinks beyond the box. Then the other guys say...REPEATEDLY...Dr. Paul Has a good point there or They ultimately agreeing with hm...Take notice next time .Go back and watch some of the debates ...You will see what I mean. They obviously cannot think on thier own.

To WhoamL......You said it in a nutshell..Obama is a puppet and he is very good at speeches but cannot put the effort to accomplish the job.He had no choice but to bring home the 10,000 soldiers because #1 its an election year#2Americans were expecting that to happen sometime during his presidency because of his so called promise#3and because that country doesn't want or need us there anyways.Obviously the guy who wrote in before you is one sided and cannot see beyond whats in his tunnell vision. He has no concept of what our constitution means for us.and how we need to grab our basic rights and hold onto them because if Ron Paul doesn't get the Presidency we are in a world of SH**...

  9. Wouldn't it be great to hear the truth as Obomba, Obamney, Grinch, and Sanitarium spewed their lies: "read my lips- more big government and wasteful programs, more senseless wars, more devaluation of the dollar, less civil liberties, I dont give a shite about you or your family!"

  10. Theres a saying that goes "If you always do what you've always done, you always get what you've always got". You can't expect "change" when you always vote for the guys the major media or your political party always props up as the best choices. True journalism will simply report the news and nothing more. Chances are your political party doesn't really give a shit about you.

    • Jobs, this is now a concept open to interpretation... These so called job creators like Romney will have the ability to offer us what type of jobs? Low pay labor. We have a huge pool of college educated, capable Americans under employed just floating hoping things will get better while they apply to every opportunity available to no reward. If we are to become a nation of the over qualified under employed we damn well better get rid of income tax just to balance the income we aren't receiving. Ron is absolutely right in removing the wild card federal government from free markets completely, and letting the natural pay off of hard work and intelligence reward itself like it should in a free economy. We need to cut the fat, our the future is bleak.

  16. Obama leaves a long trail of broken promises. He promised removal of our troops in Iraq within 16 months. The only reason we left Iraq is because the Iraqi's finally said no to any extensions. We were thrown out. But he left in our wake a billion dollar embassy and contractors that will take up where we left off. Abu Ghraib remains open. How is continued imprisonment without charge or trial not torture? The stimulus lacked shovel ready jobs, and the promised unemployment rate below 8% dissolved. Candidate Obama condemned the Patriot act. President Obama signed to extend it, and signed NDAA. Under Obama we have seen the price of gas his risen 83%. He almost kept his promise to skyrocket the price of electricity but was thankfully thwarted. Take a look:http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/rulings/promise-broken/

Today the exchange rate was .99 Canadian for $1.00 American. The U.S. federal reserve is printing too much money and our once strong dollar is on the verge of collaspse. The Canadian dollar has not gained strength but our dollar is worth a whole lot less. I am not a pro on this issue but I know a lot has changed over the past 4-5 years.

Unfortunately, Obama is a very good politician; he can make just about anything sound good and true, just like Gingrich and Romney. Thankfully, there is at least one candidate who actually does embody Lincoln's message. Vote Ron Paul, because it's not just an election; it's a Revolution to restore the Constitution!
