The guy who won back the House for the 1st time in 40 yrs & reelected it for the 1st time since 1928 (before Ron was born) & who pushed through the 1st & only balanced budgets since the 60′s as the entire establishment fought him every step of the way-
-is somehow “part of the problem”?
The establishments of both parties tried to run Newt out of town because he was TOO effective at reining in their power & spending and reforming their mess

The public is not aware of it in many cases. If the politicians don’t want you to know about something you won’t hear about it. You hear about hardly any bills that make it through congress even though their are so many. There is no real way to prevent this kind of corruption. As long as humans are weak and capable of corrupting we will fail in government. Supreme Court was made for the function you are suggesting, but they are human

Well it IS the law of the land. It’s just not obeyed by the people at the top. That’s why people are outraged by it. There couldn’t be any sort of legal document to protect it if there’s nobody there to enforce it right?

Well the constitution is not the law of the land, if it has no way of protecting itself. Surely when politicians ignore it there should be constituitonal judges who protect it and strike down laws that violate it, otherwise there’s no point having a constitution.
At least if they have to legally amend it, the general public will be alerted to the attempt.
Just surprised me that’s all.

Legal backup? The constitution is the law of the land. It’s the ultimate law. It gives us the very right to free speech. It’s just overlooked because the people in power have nobody to tell them what to do. They’re at the top. Also you have it backwards. We’re a Republic not a Democracy. If we were a democracy our people would have a lot more say in what goes on in our government. A Republic is a government of elected officials who run everything. That’s what we have.

It seems to me that the problem is that America has become a democracy rather than a republic. This seems to me, and Ron Paul never addresses this, because there are no legal protections for the constitution. Surely this should have been dealt with decades ago?
What’s the point of a constitution if succesive presidents can just ignore it? Surely there should have been put in place legal safeguards that made this impossible? Without legal backup you might as well not bother.
