Yea, Sweden’s usually regarded as highly socialist, I’m actually surprised you don’t have minimum wage! o.0 I think there’s always an incentive to work harder because the difference between getting $30,000 on welfare compared to working harder and making $50,000 or $70,000 has a huge impact on your quality of living. A basic income guarantee is an interesting idea.

Actually, I did understand the point that you made, but what I pointed out still will not cease to have an effect on peoples incentive to work hard in order to level up.

I actually support introducing a basic income guarantee, but I see great problems in combination with minimum wage laws.

Sweden is a “socialist” country correct? We’re often praised for our equality and low poverty rate, low crime rate, socialized medicine etc.
-But we don’t have any state enforced minimum wage law.

Consult the hypothetical example I wrote for itzahazylife, I think it aptly sets the question for us to answer. :) It’s more complicated than the way you both are talking about it so far (it’s an issue of arithmetic, not a conceptual one).

point at which a minimum wage in this example would hurt the economy more than help it is when it decreases job creation by 25%, which means 1.5 jobs for each business * 100 = 150 jobs * $8/hr = $1,200 in consuming power, equal to having no min. wage. So based on that hypothetical scenario, as long as the minimum wage doesn’t decrease job creation by 25%, then in the long-run, more consuming power is created–>more business–>businesses make more jobs in the future for everyone.

which yields $1,200 in consuming power for the economy. If we have a $8/hr min. wage, then, instead of each business making 2 jobs, they make 20% less because of the investment vs. skill discrepancy, so 1.6 jobs each = 160 jobs * $8 = $1,280 in consuming power. So if a min. wage creates 20% fewer jobs because of the higher min. wage req., the higher salaries that would be paid for the jobs that ARE created increases aggregate consuming power, helps the economy more. Statistically, the Cont’d

Yes, I think this repeats the point I made earlier. A min. wage forces a min. payment for a worker more or less regardless of skill if the employer chooses to give them the job. In some cases, the discrepancy between skill and wage vs. wage and investment might be so great that paying them that wage is inefficient relative to using the same money in investing in your business. In such a case, a job is then lost. The question then is, is the likelihood of this discrepancy between skill Cont’d

The combination of welfare and the minimum wage law sets up a hurdle for people who already get paid to do essentially nothing, but would like to start leveling up by getting a low skill job; Because low skill jobs disappear when they’re not considered worth the money spent on them.

The minimum wage laws don’t do any good. There has to be a non forced agreement between union workers and companies or no agreement at all.

We’ve had a form of corporatist socialism in Sweden for several decades and we don’t see any need for a minimum wage law.

“it’s not true that there’s “no incentive” for people to demand jobs/working opportunities.”

A lot of these poor people are living better than they ever have before due to welfare, PLUS they barely have to work. You do have a point when it comes to some people, but, most people are fine getting the things they need while at the same time barely needing to work for it. And the thing is, people aren’t just getting what they need, they are getting luxuries also. They even give out free cars lol.

“I wonder how much getting paid $6 or $4/hr would negatively impact consumption because that’s not a livable wage ”

It’s not a livable wage, but, it is an opening for an entry level position, wherein the poor and young can gain experience. They can use that experience to move up and get a higher salary. Point is, the minimun wage puts up a barrier for entry level positions for the young and poor.

Why would a business hire someone who isn’t worth the mandatory minimum wage? The minimun wage essentially forces businesses to hire people who are worth less to them than the minimun wage. So, they don’t. Why train the young and poor for the minimun wage when you can just hire someone already more skilled? It just so happens that the young and poor are the least skilled, so, naturally, they are the ones who lose out on jobs. The very people the minimun wage is intended to help.

Cont’d Lastly,it’s not true that there’s “no incentive” for people to demand jobs/working opportunities;of course there’s an incentive, unless people like living in a 600 sq. ft. apartment or 1000 sq. ft. home for the rest of their lives on welfare, just barely getting by, there’s an incentive to get out of that house and succeed, which requires a desire for jobs and working opportunities. Probably 80-90% of people have this incentive, so it’s not so simple to say everyone’s demanding free money.

and perhaps increase debt because people can’t get by, so they’re forced to take out loans etc. It seems like a delicate balance to me that needs further thought: does having a minimum wage decrease the amount of jobs created and hence decrease consumption more than not having a minimum wage where you may ahve more jobs but less cumulative consumption/spending power from those jobs becuase the wages are so low? Basically, which hurts consumption more? I’m not sure of the answer.

I’m curious if you could explain your reasoning because I’m not sure I understand how that would help students? How does it make them “lose out” on jobs? Are you trying to say that forcing businesses to pay $8 or whatever in minimum wage means that they won’t make more jobs? I’m not sure that’s true, if $8/hr deters a businessman from making a new job compared to $6/hr. I wonder how much getting paid $6 or $4/hr would negatively impact consumption because that’s not a livable wage Cont…

Blow dealt to Rmoney over the weekend!

Ron Paul gains 44 more Delegates — Rmoney gets only 6 !!!

Rmoney’s camp Attempt TO DEFRAUD the Elections — by sending plants using FAKE delegate badges and circulating FAKE delegate slates, and even impersonating real delegates — BACKFIRES! It only helped to galvanize The People in further rejecting Perfidy Mitt!

    Before:
    Paul —148
    Romney—697

    As of May 7th:
    Paul —192
    Romney—703

More good news for Ron Paul — according to RNC rule #38, the Mitt has probably lost about 50 bound delegates to him; while Ron Paul has probably gained that number.

Therefore, it could be that the more accurate numbers are:

    Paul —242
    Romney—653

Fox New’s REALITY CHECK Show is the source for the above numbers. Watch this video and pay attention the explanation of Rule #38 (from minute 3:15 till end of video –4:23).

Four easy steps to assure Ron Paul wins in 2012:

Ron Paul wins 22 out of 25 delegates in Nevada!

Lessons learned HOW TO ASSURE a GOP Convention is properly run (so Ron Paul is not cheated of TRUE delegates by the desperate frauds committed by Rmoney’s PLANTS!):

    1) Have two or more patrolling the venue to CATCH Mitt’s goons trying to pass FAKE PAPER COPIES (as they did in Maine and Nevada) and have them removed from the premisses (making sure each one is photographed/ video taped/ live stream shown…so they can be identified later).

    2) Make sure all Badges are legitimate (not ink-jet printed FAKES) before ANY are allowed to be heard at the Convention.

    3) Tape ALL proceedings (from many angles!) — even better to have them live-streamed to thousands outside. See how to easily set up live-streaming by watching the last video — “my setup”.

    4) Stay till the VERY END — make sure you (the Ron Paul supporters) are the LAST ones to leave the building (because, in the last few minutes, Mitt’s Goons will try to ANNUL the Actual Delegates Elected, and by subterfuge replace them with their own fake delegates)!

After spending about six hours watching eight videos from USTREAM (Nevada Convention) — the above are my conclusions!

See them for yourself below to form your own:

One of the most helpful things to the young and the poor is getting rid of the minimun wage. Many people lose out on jobs they could have because of the min. wage. They could get low paying entry level jobs and get experience and training in order to move up. But, there is no incentive for people to demand jobs and working oppurtunities. Instead, they demand free money. It’s like a cat begging for food instead of hunting a rabbit. It has no incentive to hunt the rabbit.

I can remember an intelligent thing Newt Gingrich said one time. He said something along the lines that the poor should be demanding more jobs and a productive economy instead of demanding free money from the pockets of tax payers. This is true. And the reason why people don’t nowadays, is because the government has made all of these people dependent on handouts. They have no skills, and have few employment oppurtunities.

Alex Jones has been selling Ron Paul short on his radio show for several weeks now. The mantra is “they stole the election early – too bad he can’t win”

That’s a bullshit, defeatist attitude and it’s having a very negative affect on his campaign.

What did this young girl do, to get the Dogs-of-State to pursue and knock her of her bike brutally to the ground, and then maul her into painful submission?

Watch carefully the chronological order (FREEZE picture at the time count given below — to see why):

      1) 0:32 — one of the Dogs-of-State signals the rest that he’s seen a cyclist taking a picture of “SOMETHING THAT MUST NOT BE SEEN”! So they run in pursuit.

      2) 0:44 — she is dragged down by two Dogs-of-State

      3) 0:51 — many more “Gang-of-Brothers” arrive surrounding their victim being mauled on the ground

      4) 0:57 — see the hand taking her cell phone away from her

      5) 1:10 — she manages to free one hand

      6) 1:11 — she tries to pass it in desperation to the people outside the circle of about a dozen Dogs-of-State trampling her rights

      7) 1:12 – 2:03 — she is still screaming in pain…but no-one can help her (since the AGGRESSORS, The Dogs-of-State are ARMED, and thus can inflict pain AT WILL on the disarmed, peaceful citizens)!

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTSu5APmL0M&feature=player_embedded

      And more abuses follow!

This is the MOST DISTURBING VIDEO I’ve seen taped on American soil!

DISGUSTING is mild — words fail me to describe my feelings on this OUTRAGE — watching the ‘US KGB’ MAUL and ABUSE a young girl!

Don’t know what you’ll do about it — but I’m sending this to Judge Napolitano, the ACLU, News Media outlets, and even contacting my Lawyers to look into filing a civil case against these SS Troopers (hopefully pics can be enlarged so their badge numbers can be seen)!

It would still be interesting tonight how much of what’s left of Newt’s “soul” he sells to Mitt… for favors that won’t come.

What an endorsement Newt (his quotes) would make for Mitt:

      1. He’s a liar
      2. He’s not a conservative
      3. He can’t win
      4. His immigration reform plan is an “Obama level fantasy”
      5. He profits off the poor
      6. He looted companies as head of Bain Capital
      7. He’s full of “pious baloney”
      8. Romney’s adviser was right to compare Romney to an etch-a-sketch
      9. He’s a timid leader who can’t bring about change
      10. He’s out of touch and thinks we’re stupid
