Rand Paul: Why I Endorsed Romney

798 Responses

Rand Paul appeared on the Peter Schiff Show today to explain why he endorsed Mitt Romney, how he came to respect many of his fellow senators even though he doesn’t agree with them on all the issues, and what he is doing to advance the cause of liberty.

Later, Rand Paul joined Daily Paul Radio with Kurt Wallace to discuss his endorsement of Mitt Romney and to answer the questions submitted by the Daily Paul community.

At first I was upset with Rand. After listening to him I completely understand his decision. People are forgetting that it still is Politics and you have to make smart political decisions. The Ron Paul movement has always been inside the GOP, so Rand still has to think about building bridges within the party to get things done. I think Rand’s record speaks for itself, so don’t judge him and satanize him for making a smart political move. The RP movement will survive with or without Ron or Rand.

For those who think Rand is compromising himself for the betterment of the Liberty movement and favors down the line, you are fooling yourself. Saying Mitt wants to audit the fed is like saying Greenspan or Bernenke do also. It’s just rhetoric to fool the dumb Ron Paul supporters. Sacrificing your integrity is no way to win support from those who deem it of utmost importance. Shame on you, Rand. To complain that your base doesn’t support your about-face is laughable.

Cool … One Mafia boss, endoring another Mafia boss. The 2 party system is a Hoax- it’s 2 faces of the same party.

Ron Paul stated it’s him vs the establishment. Now, his son joined the establishment. .. should be hard to swallow !

Hope Ron Paul stick to his principles, irrespective of the family problems.

In that case Rand always said that he also supports his farther. He will endorse the nominee, whoever it is. If the nominee is Ron, everything is fine. But let’s not forget that it is the Ron camp that declared first that they wouldn’t win.

Rand’s endorsement of Mitt Romney actually helps Obama. Here me out. There are millions of disaffective Obama voters and independents who voted for Obama. Obama betrayed his supporters on every issue. However, those disaffective Obama supporters think Romeny is worse and wouldn’t be caught dead voting for him. Therefore, if Rand and Ron continued to speak against currupt politicians, both Obama and Romney, many of the former Obama supporters and Independents fed up with both parties would write in Ron Paul and not vote for Obama or Romney. However, I suspect that many of them will, reluctantly, vote for Obama as the lessor of two evils. Heck, I am thinking about voting for Obama because of this mess.

Obama is a lame duck at this point. His loooonnng honey moon is over. However, if Mitt Romney is elected, we will hear the throw awya line “give Mitt time, he just got elected” “give him a chance he’s only been in there for a year” or “sure, mitt just killed baby kittens and drank their blood, but you’re just mad that Obama didn’t win.”

The GOP is bent on RE SELECTION of their candidate Obama as the two for one party shows their corrupt unclean hands
Please give Ron Paul another week or so it takes a while to compose oneself after there family has been leveraged – If they kill Ron Paul which they won’t but Mitt/Obama will have them go after his grand kids instead, I will still vote for the SPIRIT of RON PAUL !!!

His son is playing “politics” with the big boys. If you don’t like the way the system works, we have to change or replace the system.
Ron Paul was not looking for a fight at the convention and the truth needs no defense.
That said, I still don’t like how this was “handled” by the Ron Paul campaign; especially Jesse Benton and crew.

Rand will either sink or swim with Mitt Obamney. He’s tied to Mitt Obamaeny, sadly. If Mitt wins the the presidency, Rand better hope that Mitt doesn’t further the cause of tyranny. I can just see in in 2016, Rand will be lambasted with “Well you are partly to blame for hte mess we are in, you endorsed Mitt”.

The Republican establishment does not like Rand Paul. Unless Rand does a 180 on every single issue, the establishment will never trust him or support him. However, the good news the establishment has like a 5% appoval rating. The bad news is Rand Paul has harmed his reputation with his grass-roots support in order to buddy up with the establishment. He has really bad advisors, unfortunately. The trend in American politics is going against the two party dictatorship. In four years, people will be so fed up with the two-party system Rand will be unpopular BECAUSE he supported and endorsed Mitt Romney. Rand and his advisrs are assuming that the peple will trust and love republicans in 2016. Remember how much Bush was loved when he left office? Anyone who supported Bush – at any time – was practically desdtroyed politically.

I think Rand inner circle underestimated the liberty and the tea party movement. The majority of people in this county, whether liberal or conservative leaning, HATES the establishment with a passion. Paul endorsing Mitt Obamney will only hurt him in the long run. Politicians who supported Obama 4 years ago are very unpopular, and poliicians who support Obama brother, Mitt, will also be very unpopular.

At the end of the day, I think people are moving away from the corrupt establishment. Look at all the protest movements that has come along the last 4-5 years. Sure, they’ve proven to be largely ineffective but they are not going away. I think Rnd miscalculated on this. The majority of people in this county is fed up with the government. Sure, they are disorganized and not united.

I think you nailed it pretty much, I mean, what are the trends? OWS anyone? Is it forgotten already? There were many from all sides of the disgruntled political spectrum there, from constitutional TEA partiers to Union communists and all in between, middle class and poor. We are also present in the different liberty groups that agree upon probably only one thing, get rid of the fat cat Wall Street oligarchy and Israel’s control over our government offices, power to the people! ( Mitt got an RNC gift of $5 mill from the Israel PAC)

Whether he is a stuffy Mormon in a $1000 suit or portrayed as just a regular guy in blue jeans with his sleeves rolled up, Mitt is not trusted to keep his word – he flips and flops even to Ann Romney she said it herself.

Mitt said he wanted DOUBLE GITMO, and NDAA, Patriot Act, looked down his nose at a crippled medical marijuana user, even though his own wife has MS and it would help her.

We especially should be wary of cult followers i.e. oddball Mormons! They call us an oddball Paulian cult, fair to return the insult? Oddballs unite for freedom to be odd and at odds with the status quo!

he already gave into the GOP when his movement is about not giving an inch and playing dirty ball with the establishment. He’ll never get my vote or any principled Libertarian. He endorsed this guy over his dad when his dad’s campaign is still pushing for delegates and telling us the whole time the fight isnt over and we can still get an upset or force a brokered convention.someone is not being a straight shooter. Im giving the Dr. the benefit of the doubt, but his son has made a grievous error.

First to avoid any nonsense, keeping from a narrow thought of just anger or sarcasm comment and responding by thinking through the US issues. That being said…Its great.. fine and dandy that your response is…”this is the rules and way things work politically written and unspoken.( my personal interpretation of what Rand Paul said)”. But really! Really! How can anyone follow Romney or Obama both these guys are all over the place, dishonest as “all get out”, I mean they both have zero desire and zero effort to uphold the US Constitution. Both these characters are typical politicians 110% corrupt! And you want people to get behind Romney? Wow so the only solution is to pick the lesser of the two evils? I guess if it comes down to it and if that’s the only option then what other option is there? Seriously its great slowly people are waking up and gaining small ground, but this is being done with the wrong ground rules in play. So how long? How long do US citizens keep trying the peaceable voting process? No one really wants a war especially a civil war but civil war seems to be where we are heading. And who can call themselves and American citizen and not uphold the US Constitution? Military? Government? DOJ and all the enforcement agencies? Citizens? Look at Romney does he support a police state? YES. Does Romney support Liberty? NO. Does Romney support the right to privacy? NO. So much more wrong with Romney. He is not much different from Obama.

I have spoken to several seniors that were involved in Korea/Vietnam conflicts (by the way I know not all seniors think this way) and all they think is anyone but Obama. They don’t want a communist. Also they are confused by liberal and liberty. They don’t want liberal views like “the drugs”. Its sad because we have had communist ideals in our laws and infrastructure for a long time. Its almost like seniors have forgotten about lady liberty the statue of liberty and one of our countries foundations is liberty not liberal. Communist or Fascist our country needs neither. We need liberty and privacy. Rand Paul where do you leave people to? A watered down solution that leaves our country dehydrated and angry with a two party system with the same agenda….unconstitutional government that is pushing a one world government.
Tell me how voting in Romney is going to produce Constitutional government, liberty, freedom, a government that upholds the Amendments …the right to privacy and so on. Tell me how Romney is going to restore our freedoms. Tell me how Romney is going to stop the DOJ from harvesting the internet to put people behind bars. Tell me how Romney is going to repeal the Patriot Act, ACTA, CISPA, the NDAA and so much more. How about out of control drug war… is he going to stop that. How is voting for Romney going to further the liberty movement enough to put fed/state government back in the limited box it belongs in. In California sheriff are defiant in many counties and refuse to uphold state medical cannabis laws along with city officials because of federal agencies, fed financial influence and fed/state conspire against state laws in many matters not only medical cannabis. So how is Romney going to stop that. Rand Paul your gonna have to do alot more to convince people Romney is who people should support and alot more to convince people Romney is even a Republican and honestly doesn’t matter what party. The only real person for the presidency is a constitutionalists …The US Constitution.

Its amazing to see the republican party throwing away the vote with Romney.

Don’t forget and fight to uphold the US Constitution!

      Obviously liberal comes from liberty.

Only, liberals like just the moral liberty (individual behavior), but crave for the ethics (economy) of society to be under severe rule (government). OTOH conservatives like the morals to be under severe rule, while they crave for ethic liberty (corporative behavior). Both match pretty neatly socialism and fascism respectively. In Europe libertarians are considered weird leftists, whereas in the U.S. of A. are thought to be somewhat on the right. They are wrong on both sides of the pond. Libertarians are the same everywhere and anywhere – they are only ruled by liberty laws. I believe it is the most useful cause one could ever push along his/her life.

Maybe next time you could talk about the responsibility that goes attached to liberty. I found it to be quite persuasive whenever I bring up the consequential point to liberty, which is that one is responsible and accountable for any act he/she freely decides to make. If freedom is granted, laws are more likely to be just and, therefore, respected and followed and equally less likely to be despised and broken.

Anyways, it may be the Internet, but I was the ONLY student (1998-2002), amongst six studying philosophical politics, who cherished the politics of liberty. Nowadays we are legion. Remember that most people supporting either party have no actual knowledge about politics, wether it is philosophical or not. The herd will always and only support the dominating trend of the moment, and I reckon the moment is ours.

Keep taking your chances to engage in conversation! Every time ten people gather to talk about liberty, a banker shivers – lets get them a deadly flu!

I no longer think that Paul ever thought that he could win. Also, if he wanted to win, then why did he not pull out when he saw himself being cheated, over and over? Well, if he ran as independent, he also would not win. But, by allowing himself to get sucker-punched by the GOP, he has let us see first hand how they really are. Rand is a GOP senator. If he wants his bills passed, he must pay some lip service to the party. If we do not like it, then we must overthrow the two party system.
