To me it means that he is someone who has helped pave the way for those people who are seeking liberty. He is someone to aspire to and has been one of the role models in which I have modeled myself after. Hopefully that helps to answer your question.

Who is the goofball that did the “interactive transcription” of this speech? It is the first time I’ve seen that function available on a video and thought it was a pretty cool idea until I began reading along with what Ron Paul was saying. If anyone translates it into another language, I hope they work for The Onion News Network. It might actually come out correctly.

    RP-An asterisk of history.
Those that did not give up with Ron quitting, abandoned their principles to join the part of the party that is fear mongering, war mongering and does not care about 47% of you. Sad

I see Gentlemen speak here under great disadvantages. If they are not free in this Nation, what shall we do with Congress? The freedom of ALL is under pressure look around you, and explain to me why our children and elderly are violated by the law that should protect them? Young people demonstrating attacked by the same law is NOT a free nation.

So the Feds take 27% (witholding, So Sec, FICA etc.), the state takes 8% more, property taxes about 4%, a gas tax, 9% sales tax, vehicle registration, and dog license.

We can’t even afford chairs for the Big Government new hires…..

You have to account if the household income can afford the costs of the comforts. You have to balance if you can afford to serve the family members first, visitors and free loaders. If you are an entertained spender, know your earnings if it can sustain your costly lifestyle of entertaining. Know how to breathe under the burden of debt

I would argue that it should be made a right in every country and I know you hardcore open market capitalists go like oh no the government, but just think about it, shouldn’t the necessary needs of a human be fulfilled in this age and time. Education gives you freedom to have more control over your life. Also I would say that free markets work because of the premise that humans are greedy and selfish which sadly holds true. For me personally health, education should be given to everyone.

The left “Socialism” love the to stand on freedoms. The love the “war on drugs” and love death and destruction. Just the German Worker’s Part, the Soviet Workers Party,Socialist Workers’ Party of China, Khmer Rouge, and North Korea. They kill anyone who does not see the world as they do and snd steal from all but those at the top of the left while standing on the backs of the poor and the weak. The left is even more disgusting then the right by leaps and bounds. And that is so hard to do. Freedom!

If only voters paid attention to third party candidates. If only we were not entrenched so deeply in the two party system, if only…
Yeah, it was whimsical thinking. :/

Hardly self serving. IR and American politics are my passions and they’re relevant in the real world today, possibly more so than ever.

The biggest shame of all is that he was discredited by the mainstream, especially the media…….all for his belief in governing by principle and genuine honest conviction. America wasted a great politician and a great man. I hope that at the very least his words our appreciated at some point in the future.

Switzerland is far from being a “libertarian” paradise but look at what they´ve achieved. Their constitution was highly influenced by the American. Today, in Switzerland, two thirds of total government spending take place at local level (1/3 in USA and Europe). Their top federal tax brackets for personal and corporate income are 11.5% and 8.5%, and the Swiss voted in 2010 against a tax hike for those making 250K or more. The wealthiest 10% only pay 20% of all taxes and unemployment is below 4%.

Their secret for fiscal responsability? It´s called fiscal competition between states (cantons) and other local administrations. It leads to higher efficiency. Such fiscal competition is only possible if the federal tax rates are low enough (if the federal government takes 40-50% of your income, a state can hardly compete with other states)

My specialty areas are international relations and American politics. After I finish I plan on teaching. It’s not as self-serving as you think. At the university level we need some conservatives and moderates to balance out the outright crap and pure ideology that liberal profs are spooning out. I’m with a lot of you guys here on the issues, but I just could never get behind Ron Paul.

Not his fault man, I’m not protecting him either, this is pure logic. If both sides are rigged, you can never get truly meaningful change, sure you might achieve a few things but this are just freebies the Elites let you have to keep your hopes high that there might just be a chance when there is none. Ron Paul’s come to the same conclusion Gandhi did, that the system is rigged by and that staying inside it only guarantees one will become a sad political footnote. Real change comes from dOUTSIDE

Is it the size of the government that is pertinent – or that it is centralized? Because I am sure you are aware that a small government can be centralized as well?

If you are talking about centralization or decentralization, then I completely agree with your statement. The word “big” has no bearing on your argument. If centralization is the problem, the size is of no consequence.

Lobbies are happier with a big centralized government. Decentralization means they have to knock at more doors.
