If by gov you mean the people than absolutely there is a role of the gov in the market. A central bank (Federal Reserve System) is contrary to capitalism & free market economics. The federal gov with its three branches of checks & balances is designed so that no branch can have a stranglehold of power. Now executive orders, line item veto, & the war powers act have unbalanced the system. IF there were NO central bank the congress would have to address their constituants.

but is there ever an instance when government should have some sort of influence on a market, not the whole market, but certain sectors? Why or why not?
People need to understand the principles behind tax increases if they want to address the issues we face. Raising them is just another "fix."
We need a new financial ecoonomic system a credit system Restore Glass-Steagall pass HR1489 "Now"
Unprecedented sounds like a good start if precedence is what we have now. Free markets will allow the solution as long as gov stays out of the way.
if I had a coat-tail, surely these lops would be sitting on it
Ron Paul was America's last chance at a peaceful revolution... The Jew dominated media marginalized him AND his supporters.
hes not calling for the same thing at all actually. hes asking for a commidity based currency with competing currenices in full effect. thats never been done for any length of time and is unprecedented in todays global economy. what youre speaking about is only possible with extreme social evolution,....that CANNOT be forced. also technology itself may evolve to the point where its no longer possible to monopolize production base. at that point in our civiliazation ALL bets are off.
I like how you used the "doing the same thing" line. That's not what it was meant for. The person who said it was referencing scientific experiments in which if you did do the same thing over and over again nothing new would happen, and this is insanity. With humans, nothing we do is exactly the same, so your point is moot.
What we need is a drink of cold water, like Ron Paul !!!!
Ill give you a solution, let the money system go and lets do something entire diefferent.
I like ron paul and i think he is a good man but he has no soultions into days times, doing the same thing over and over and thinking we will get a different results is called insanity.
I think RBE is our best choice for peace.
what we know in the year 2012 is not the same as what we new back then,no money system, people work tords the better for all of man kind for that is the only choice we have for peace.
at least if your related to ron you,ll get a job , up to the point he steps down any way
They all need to be cut off to their fix of spending.
I'd say a 5% flat tax for everyone would be good enough.
I think we should pay the same amount. Ex : everybody pay 3,000 a year. But the republicans will end up paying for those who can't, as always.
