by Ron Paul
As I prepare to retire from Congress I’d like to suggest a few New Year’s resolutions for my colleagues to consider. For the sake of liberty, peace and prosperity I certainly hope more members of Congress consider the strict libertarian-constitutional approach to government in 2013.
In just a few days, Congress will solemnly swear to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. They should read Article 1 Section 8 and the Bill of Rights before taking such a serious oath. Most legislation violates key provisions of the Constitution in very basic ways, and if members can’t bring themselves to say “no” in the face of pressure from the special interests, they have broken trust with their constituents and violated their oath. Congress does not exist to serve the special interests. It exists to protect the rule of law.
I also urge my colleagues to end unconstitutional wars overseas. Stop the drone strikes. Stop the covert activities and the meddling in the internal affairs of other nations. Strive to observe good faith and justice towards all nations, as George Washington admonished. We are only making more enemies, wasting lives and bankrupting ourselves with the neoconservative interventionist mindset that endorses preemptive war that now dominates both parties.
All foreign aid should end, which is blatantly unconstitutional. While it may be a relatively small part of our federal budget, for many countries it is a large part of theirs and it creates perverse incentives for both our friends and enemies. There is no way members of Congress can know or understand the political, economic, legal and social realities in the many nations to which they send taxpayers’ dollars.
Congress needs to stop accumulating more debt. U.S. debt monetized by the Federal Reserve is the true threat to our national security. Revisiting the parameters of Article 1 Section 8 would be a good start.
Congress should resolve to respect personal liberty and free markets. Learn more about the free market and how it regulates commerce and produces greater prosperity ever than any legislation or regulation.
Understand that economic freedom is freedom. Resolve not to get in the way of voluntary contracts between consenting adults. Stop bailing out failed yet politically connected companies and industries. Stop forcing people to engage in commerce when they don’t want to, and stop prohibiting them from buying and selling when they want to. Stop trying to legislate your ideas of fairness. Protect property rights. Protect the individual. That is enough.
There are many more resolutions I would like to see my colleagues in Congress adopt, but respect for the Constitution and the oath of office should be at the core of every single member’s of Congress due in 2013.

Processing your request, Please wait....

What are you on about we do not print our own money, though this is a huge issue I do not see where you are going. Giving the printing power back to the Congress is a good place to start, but I’m not too happy about people printing in a general sense. Though I am not a advocate for libertarianism because I disagree with most of their stances on the Israeli-Palenstine issue I would say that barter would be the best place to go or atleast backing dollars, or in this case making them worth somethin

Then you, dracdrum need to view some of the Libertarian “revolution” videos.
I think you will find them enlightening. They do most certainly demand fiat.

I don’t know about all Libertarians, but Ron Paul is against fiat currency. I am against it as well, and I normally align libertarian depending on scope.

Your spin might work on someone who hasn’t known abut Libertarians for a very long time.
They’ve jumped all over the political board trying to get their nitwits elected to office. When they were forced to identify themselves on ballots as “Libertarians” they got so few votes it was laughable.
They are liars and crazy people and they’ve just about destroyed the Republican Party.

Attention!! Breaking News!!
Ron Paulites/Libertarians (i.e. tea party) have declared flush toilets, dentures and automatic transmissions “UnConstitutional”.
They have also declared microwave ovens and scientific research “the work of the devil”.
They also complain bitterly about Laws and Law Enforcement and demand such be shut down as both tend to put a wedgie in their “freedoms” (such as sucking down dope).
America, they claim, has become the work of the devil.
And they are those devils.

I do not think, nor does any rational person think that inflation deterrents have been ignored. Furthermore, fiat currency is exactly what Libertarians/Tea Party advocate.
Your propaganda is effective ONLY for the ignorant. I would no more want a Libertarian or Libertarian ideas as the guideline for this country than I would want a chicken snake in charge of my hen house.
And don’t give me your spins about the Constitution.

I’ve been to every State in the Union except Alaska, and can tell you for a fact Texas is very unique and very together with mighty fine leadership. Texans are also smart which is why that Tea Party propaganda is on the “Fed Up” list here.
If I wore a badge, I’d have a Court Order for Tea Party and Alex Jones and his list of “followers” — and that entire anti-government bunch would all be investigated

they contribute nothing to society except $ which is worthless in itself, you cant eat it. burning it wont keep u very warm. 3 ppl cooking can feed many over a year, yet their contribution to society is deemed less than the millionaire who keeps 1 mil banked and collects 4% interest and makes 40 k a year? kill the 1%ers and deposit their wealth into the economy. 40% of the worlds $ will be back and we will only lose 1% of the population… good trade if you ask me

ron paul said, truthfully, he can get you a gallon of gas for a quarter. he didnt lie, take a quarter from 1964 before they got rid of the gold standard and it was minted in 90% silver, today taht quarter is worth 5+$ at a coin shop… so its probably worth even more than that. when is the last time you bought 2 gallons of gas for 25 cents? a millionaire with all their $ in the bank makes more in interest than 3 mcdonalds employees a year combined, without getting off the couch.

the problem is when you deposit a dollar in the bank the bank has the right to loan out 90 cents of your dollar. (10% reserve deposit needed) that seems ok, until you withdraw your dollar and instead of there being 1 dollar in the system now there is 1.90$. and on top of that interest owed on that 90 cents that was borrowed. so if that was the only dollar ever its value has been decreased by nearly half, and there isnt enough $ in the system to even pay back the loan + the interest. =debtspiral

Its more about the abused of printing money and the power gained by it at the expense of the economy while regulations from the Constitution on gold and silver as inflation deterrents are ignored. Printing money based on actual wealth is different than this fiat currency system. You seem to as well ignore the position that includes competition against the monopoly standard imposed by the government on money that goes beyond gold and silver.

Except, Libertarian is broken down into huge different groups by themselves (which I doubt you know of) having as much relation to Republicans as to Democrats, and the Tea party you talk about was a cultural thing at first, which evolved into a Fox News political tool for Republicans killing whatever grass roots that used the name and changed the direction along with the arguments to control the narrative.

In Tex-ass? Not likely, I’ve got bigger balls than any redneck, trailer trash, inbread gun freak. And twice the mind power as well. “Why do I care about your hopeless r3volution”? I don’t, but I cannot resist ridiculing fools glorifying their cultlike attitudes like lemmings following one another into a badger’s hole.

Anthony, why do you think Czar Nicholas and his family were murdered? What in the world could have so angered the Vatican and other Royal Houses to “get rid” of him via revolution, with Vatican bad boys in charge?
He refused to go along with their demands for participation and support of Free Trade.
The good Czar stated Free Trade violated sovereignty.

once upon a time in the magical land known as America, there lived a simple and ipropagandized people — Republicans, aka Libertarians/Tea Party.
Like all primitive and simple souls, their ruler was either a priest or a white witch who did their praying for them and chased away all their demons.
Promises of safety, protection and forgiveness (even for telling Harry Reid to “fuck off”) were theirs if —
they didn’t anger their gods and gargoyles.

Wait. I missed something.
It was the Libertarian/Tea Party/Ron Paulites who, in their quest for revolution, decided printing our own money would be a good thing.
BUT we already do that, and glory be, it’s the same Libertarian/Tea Party/Ron Paulites who are complaining AGAIN.
I would suggest you learn more about money AND frivolity before you do your barking.

Oh and Buffy,
According to the IMF’s website they are quote:
“Set up as a voluntary and cooperative institution, the IMF attracts to its membership nations that are prepared, in a spirit of enlightened self-interest, to relinquish some measure of national sovereignty by abjuring practices injurious to the economic well-being of their fellow member nations.”
Translation: Our economic (and political) sovereignty is abridged by the international government. Just ask Greece
