by Ron Paul
While I oppose most gun control proposals, there is one group of Americans I do believe should be disarmed: federal agents. The use of force by federal agents to enforce unjust and unconstitutional laws is one of the major, albeit overlooked, threats to liberty. Too often Americans are victimized by government force simply for engaging in commercial transactions disproved of by Congress and the federal bureaucracy.
For example, the offices of Rawesome Foods in Venice, California, have been repeatedly raided by armed federal and state agents, and Rawesome’s founder, 65-year old James Stewart, has been imprisoned. What heinous crime justified this action? Rawesome sold unpasteurized (raw) milk and cheese to willing customers – in a state where raw milk is legal! You cannot even drink milk from a cow without a federal permit!
This is hardly the only case of federal agents using force against those who would dare meet consumer demand for raw milk. In 2011 armed agents of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided the business of Pennsylvanian Amish farmer Dan Allgyer. Federal agents wasted a whole year and who knows how many millions of our tax dollars posing as customers in order to stop Allgyer from selling his raw milk to willing customers.
The use of force against individuals making choices not approved of by the political elite does not just stop with raw milk. The Natural News website has documented numerous accounts of federal persecution, including armed raids, of health food stores and alternative medical practitioners.
Federal bureaucrats are also using force to crack down on the makers of gold coins for fear that people may use these coins as an alternative to the Federal Reserve’s fiat currency. Bernard von NotHaus, the founder of Liberty Dollars, is currently awaiting sentencing on federal counterfeiting charges — even though Mr. von NotHaus took steps to ensure his coins where not used as “legal tender.”
Yet, the federal government was so concerned over the possibility that Mr. von NotHaus’s customers might use his coins in regular day-to-day commerce they actually labeled Mr. von NotHaus a “terrorist.”
These type of police state tactics used against, among others, raw milk producers, alternative health providers, and gold coin dealers is justified by the paternalistic attitude common in Washington, D.C. A member of Congress actually once told me that, “The people need these types of laws because they do not know what is good for them.” This mindset fuels the growth of the nanny state and inevitably leads to what C.S. Lewis said may be the worst form of tyranny “…a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims.”
All Americans, even if they do not believe it is a wise choice to drink raw milk or use gold coins, should be concerned about the use of force to limit our choices. This is because there is no limiting principle to the idea that the government force is justified if used “for our own good.” Today it is those who sell raw milk who are being victimized by government force, tomorrow it could be those who sell soda pop or Styrofoam cups. Therefore, all Americans should speak out against these injustices.

Its probably dangerous if you feed cows foods that they cant digest, and then pump them full of antibiotics when they inevitably get sick.

I do understand that bias, and I think people should have the right to choose what they consume. I also understand that the government should probably be protecting people from sellers who sell very unsafe products to unknowing or devious customers. Maybe if there was a law to ensure buyers are informed of the risks associated with raw milk. Like how cigarettes are labeled with cancer warnings.

i dont know why there is 2 thumbs down…it seems like a feasible solution. Although i dont deem raw milk dangerous, as my girlfriends family are dairy farmers (ohio) and i know plenty of people to drink it (not me)….but what harm could being forced to be honest do?

Apparently or definitely are two different things. The FDA will tell you raw milk is unhealthy and yet they give their OK to drugs that cause major health problems on a regular basis. Considering the fact that Americans in general are known to be unhealthy and obese from eating the foods the FDA says is ok, we are also the most over drugged country in the world. So you’ll understand my bias towards the FDA and their claims of whats safe to consume.

I grew up drinking raw milk from birth, did not make me sick or kill me. ( 15 years until the govt. changed the law ) All of the people in the town drank it too. Most of them are very much alive and well today with no adverse effects from milk. 65 years Young !

Where was Ron when they came for the 9/11 Truthers at the S. Carolina 2008 Presidential Debate? When asked about 9/11 truth by Carl Cameron, Ron looked the other way.

Raw milk producers have had to go undercover, if indeed, they are still able to exist in this Big Brother nation. Many do not post on the web, as that makes their operation totally accessible to the Feds. I have found a local organic egg producer, probably another case-in-point for future bans by Big Brother, ha! I still seek an organic milk producer. I will have to go to the trenches, and bypass the convenience of the computer. That’s fine, as my one burning desire is to know that which will help to build/maintain/preserve the health of my loved ones. I will not be intimidated by those who know nothing. My hat is always off to Dr. Paul, (who SHOULD be President) and Rand.

selling raw milk as raw milk is different than selling raw milk as a miricle cure. as selling cyanide as something you could actually consume.

Raw milk absolutely does not make people sick. That is a spin off of untruth that people have come to believe simply from repetition. Absolutely rubbish. I read tons and tons of clinical trials and raw milk is simply and completely not dangerous whatsoever at all.

Most people don’t drink raw milk because it is a health problem. Raw milk contains alot of bacteria and can give you a humpback. That said if you are aware of the issues and choose to buy it, I don’t think anyone should be able to stop you..

Well I think the difference here is that raw milk apparently can make you very sick very quickly, where as other products such as cigarettes, chemical additives, and food substitutes, take a very long time to make someone sick, and thus that someone would have a much greater chance to learn of the potential risks before actually experiencing them. With raw milk, it could very easily be sold to someone not knowing fully the risks, and cause that person to become very sick, even potentially dying.

Thats just it, raw milk cannot be compared to cyanide as humans have been drinking it for thousands of years. Yet today with the FDA regulating everything we take into our bodies and declared as safe, we are unhealthy because we’re eating chemicals and food substitutes. So the question that really needs to be asked is how can we trust those who regulate these things?

I’m sorry that someone flagged your comment as spam. I think you are asking a legitimate question. I have had to reason with things like this. Although, I have come to the conclusion that the free market is the best solution, even with things like cyanide as a miracle cure. This is because reputation is an important element of the free market.
I would argue that if the person was being fraudulent, and saying it contained no cyanide (when it did) when people asked, then he could be prosecuted.

my friend drank raw milk for four weeks when he went to live on a farm. when he came back i could see his auras and he was definitely more connected with people emotionally. I’m trying to buy raw milk around my town but the farmers are scared to sell it.

I don’t know how I feel about this. Where do you draw the line on the sale of unsafe products? If someone is selling cyanide as a miracle health cure, and it is making people feel sick or die, should we stop that seller?
