Ron Paul: Americans Are Sick and Tired of Government Overreach

News Anchor: Joining me now on the phone is former Republican Congressman, Ron Paul. Congressman, it’s great to have you back on the show. Where do you think he is right now, are you worried about that?

Ron Paul: You have no idea. I’m worried that somebody in our government might kill him with a cruise missile or a drone missile. We live in a bad time where American citizens don’t even have rights, and they can be killed. But the gentleman is trying to tell the truth about what’s going on, he’s not defecting, there are no signs of that happening. It’s a shame that we’re in an age where people that tell the truth about what the government is doing, get into trouble. We have a CIA agent in prison today because he told us there was torture going on in Guantanamo. So this is not good that the American people are being spied on. The government is secret, that’s not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s supposed to be the other way round, they’re supposed to protect our privacy.

News Anchor: You heard the quote that we played at the very beginning, where he talked about the fact that it would be easy for him to sell secrets to Russia, and that is a major concern as well.

Ron Paul: Yes, but you also heard him say that that wasn’t his intent.

News Anchor: He can say anything, though, you feel confident that he’s not going to do that?

Ron Paul: Absolutely, that would be my assessment. He wouldn’t be doing it this way, he wouldn’t make himself so vulnerable. No, I don’t think for a minute that he’s a traitor. Everybody is worried about him and what they’re going to do and how they’re going to convict him of treason and how they’re going to kill him. But what about the people who destroy our constitution, what kind of penalty is for those individuals who just take the second or fourth amendment and destroy it? What do we think about people who assassinate American citizens without trial and assume that that’s the law of the land? That’s where our problem is. Our problem isn’t with people who’re trying to tell us the truth about what’s happening.

News Anchor: You’re asking how people feel about this. According to the Washington Post Poll, 56% of Americans find the NSA program acceptable, and one of the greatest fears Snowden said in that same interview, was that he was going to go through all this and the America public wasn’t going to care about the fact that the government was spying on them.

Ron Paul: Yes, but you pick and chose. There are some pretty good statistics out there that the American people are sick and tired of this overreach. And yes, the propaganda is out there, that if you’re not for NSA spying on people, then you’re un-American, you’re unpatriotic, and you hate America; that’s all the propaganda. But what if you’re a strict constitutionalist and a civil libertarian, you’d have a different opinion. What about obeying the constitution, what’s so horrible about that?

News Anchor: You think the majority of Americans are disturbed by what they found out, and do you think they will react and do something about it?

Ron Paul: I think the majority are disturbed because they now know that the government knows everything about them, they keep all these records. And also, why can’t this be connected to the IRS? Just think of this overreach with the IRS, AP reports that now they have evidence that they spy on every single American to ‘make us safe’? No, people are starting to realize this.

News Anchor: Your son called for a Class Action Lawsuit against the federal government over this scandal, do you support that, do you think that’s a good idea?

Ron Paul: I think anything like that to call attention to it, is good. I have not been overly confident about the court system, but I emphasize the fact that the most important thing is that the American people wake up and understand what liberty is all about, what the constitution is about. And if they don’t understand that, nothing will change it, because the government is a reflection of education. Whether it’s the courts, whether it’s the presidency, the executive branch or the congressional branch, they reflect the clichés and the teachings that they’ve had for a hundred years. And, unfortunately, it has undermined our system of liberty and the constitution. As I was told once, when I said we should never go to war without a declaration: “That part of the constitution is an (?)”, that’s what we’re facing. So, to me, educating the American people and getting confidence back in their minds and hearts to believe that freedom can work and the government can’t take care of us and we should not depend that the government give us perfect safety and perfect security at the sacrifice of our liberty. It’s a foolish trend, and I think episodes like this do a lot to wake up a lot people.

News Anchor: I hope you’re right, Congressman, thank you so much for coming on, we appreciate your time.

  • dumb fox news cunt bitch

  • I agree with Ron Paul, but unfortunately Melissa Francis makes one important point indirectly:

    Do most Americans care?

If Mitt Romney is right and 47% of Americans are government hand-out seeking moochers then they don’t care. They prefer handouts over freedoms and as long as the gravy train keeps coming it won’t matter to them that their privacy is grotesquely violated by their own government.

  • Why would he tell the American people what’s going on, admit to his actions publicly, and then go sell secrets to Russia? If he was a traitor he would have sneaked off quietly and sold our secrets. He’s a whistleblower, not a traitor.

  • wow and you will b one of the ones the govt will round up and stick in a camp you are complacent and will allow it to happen the bottom line this govt is corrupt and we as citizen will pay for it but it is what it is there will b suckers comes with the territory

  • I love the way he steps up and says what he means and means what he says..

  • The fact that she kept cutting him off really makes me rage.

  • simply stunning! . cant come of out the reality of getting a iphone for doing some questionnaire 🙂 . just listen for now, give ur delivery addr with phone number to make sure you get it. its worth a try here >>

  • welcome to the world of goverment leaders

  • Melissa Francis shut the fuck up rude bitch let the speak!

  • boycott fox news..they’re just as liberal as the other ones!!!

  • This man is genius..

  • He ran and hid because he KNEW he committed a crime! He deserves everything the govt can throw at him. He may be your hero, but it’s apparent your qualifications are extremely low.

  • So 56% of American’s are OK with the NSA?? Right. I love how the U.S. media just makes up numbers to push their agenda. Anyone on here recall giving their opinion in that poll?? I sure don’t. Ridiculous. Then as soon as they don’t like what RP has to say, they shut him down. Worthless.

  • Ron Paul is a real leader

  • Kill the currupt people in the american gov for humanity !!! men in black!! they are not human, they are not on the peoples side.let the people have a say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Showden didn’t aid ‘the enemy’ in any way. All he did was expose the fucked up things that happen in government. Now Mr. Snowden has to worry about the men in black coming with their nipple shockers.

  • ONE LAST THING, I am not going to waste my time arguing with you over your small minded thinking, so don’t expect me to reply to my post, so read everything I wrote before you go writing your view on things and how I am wrong, BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! I know that I am right to say that all people matter, from their life to their privacy which all the above matters.

  • OH and BY the WAY I am not going to spend my time arguing with those of you who are closed minded thinking that what the U.S. government and its partners are doing is fine then you are the problem too, since it is not about you or if this country continues as we know it since it is hurting way to many people. Again even people from other countries matter and as I was saying if you don’t agree that people who are not like you don’t matter then you are the problem.

  • First off I believe we should stick to the Constitution since that is the first and only contract with America. Next I believe if you fear this government and their thugs you need to find your hole and hide in it, since right now this government cannot do anything right, and would be foolish doing anything against the American people now. This government is finished since they stepped on their dink, so what I see needs to happen is resetting and going back to the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

  • The Government should be transparent.
