Fox Business interviewed Ron Paul about his surprisingly strong showing in the latest Rasmussen poll. 41% said they would vote for Ron Paul in the 2012 presidential elections.

Ron Paul: “It’s a pleasant surprise, but I don’t know what that means since I’m not a candidate for anything, except to get reelected to Congress.”

Rebecca Diamond: You know, a survey that just came out today is of particular interest to our first guest here on Happy Hour. This was a telephone survey of the 2012 presidential election. And that survey found that President Obama has 42% of voters’ support, and Representative Ron Paul has 41%. WOW!

Ron Paul is our guest today on Happy Hour. So, Congressman, wow, first of all, congratulations and welcome to Happy Hour. What about that 1%, what are you going to do about it?

Ron Paul: I don’t know. Do you think that was an authentic poll? That’s a bit of a surprise to me.

Rebecca Diamond: Yes, it was a legitimate poll.

Cody Willard: It was, it was a Rasmussen poll, congressman.

Ron Paul: Yeah, it was surprise that they even ran the poll. I guess it’s a pleasant surprise, but I don’t know what that means since I’m not a candidate for anything, except to get re-elected to Congress. So I guess I’ll work on that.

Cody Willard: Well, Congressman, let’s talk a little bit about, you know, is there any chance that you would run in 2012? I talk all the time that I wouldn’t vote for a Republican or Democrat, but if you ran, it would actually challenge that premise of mine. And I’d love to see you run as an independent for sure.

Ron Paul: Well, I haven’t closed it out, but I haven’t been very enthusiastic. I have no plans to do it. You know, that poll indicates that the message of limited government is pervasive throughout the whole society, and it is not a party thing. One of the biggest obstacles for somebody like myself to run on a limited-government platform would be to get through the Republican primary, because some of them aren’t for limited government. I’m for limited government on personal matters and I’m for limiting our exposure overseas in our empire in 135 countries with 700 bases. And that doesn’t sit that well in a Republican primary. But I’m delighted to know that a large number of Americans are starting to think this way.

Election 2012: Barack Obama 42%, Ron Paul 41%

Ron Paul can beat Barack Obama in 2012, according to the latest Rasmussen poll: If the elections were held today, Obama would gain 42% of the vote compared to Paul’s 41% – statistical dead heat. Among independents, Paul has an astonishing 47% to 28% edge over the president.

The difficult part may be getting the GOP nomination: Only 66% of GOP voters say they would support Ron Paul even if he wins the nomination. But there’s still potential for improvement: 49% of GOP voters are still not sure whether Ron Paul shares the values of most Republicans throughout the nation.

Time to spread the message!

Election 2012: Barack Obama 42%, Ron Paul 41%

Pit maverick Republican Congressman Ron Paul against President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 election match-up, and the race is – virtually dead even.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of likely voters finds Obama with 42% support and Paul with 41% of the vote. Eleven percent (11%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

Obama earns 79% support from Democrats, but Paul gets just 66% of GOP votes. Voters not affiliated with either major party give Paul a 47% to 28% edge over the president.

Twenty-six percent (26%) of GOP voters think Paul shares the values of most Republican voters throughout the nation, but 25% disagree. Forty-nine percent (49%) are not sure.

Ron Paul Introduces Bill to “End the Mandate”

Congressman Paul has officially introduced his legislation to repeal the federal health insurance mandate. The bill is titled “End the Mandate” and the bill number is HR 4995. The bill’s text is as follows:

“End the Mandate”

To restore the American people’s freedom to choose the health insurance that best meets their individual needs by repealing the mandate that all Americans obtain government-approved health insurance.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the “End the Mandate Act of 2010.”

SEC. 2. REPEAL OF INDIVIDUAL AND EMPLOYER MANDATES ENACTED BY PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT.

(a) PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT.-Effective as of the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, subtitle F of title I of such Act, as amended by title X of such Act, is hereby repealed.

(b) HEALTH CARE AND EDUCATION RECONCILIATION ACT OF 2010.-Effective as of the enactment of the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, sections 1002 and 1003 of such Act are hereby repealed.

That’s it! It’s a short bill but a huge step towards regaining our freedoms.

Ron Paul: “The question has been raised whether or not our president is a socialist. And I’m sure there are some people here [at the SRLC] who believe it and I know this conference has talked about that already and I think that is very important, he deserves a lot of criticism. But you know, in the technical sense, in the economic definition of a socialist, no, he’s not a socialist. What he is is a corporatist and unfortunately, we have corporatists in the Republican party and that means you take care of corporations and corporations take over and run the country. We see that in the financial institution, we see it in the military-industrial complex, and now we see it in the medical-industrial complex who runs medicine.”

Poll Results: Ron Paul’s VP in 2012

From April 5 to 13, RonPaul.com ran a poll asking readers to select up to 5 candidates to join a potential Ron Paul ticket as running mate in 2012. The poll attracted 10,580 voters, compared to 9,425 voters in the November 2009 poll and 2,739 voters in the June 2009 poll.

Judge Andrew Napolitano came in as the undisputed winner, with 40% of voters expressing their desire for him to be Ron Paul’s VP in 2012 (up from 27% in the November poll).

Jesse Ventura came in second with 25% of the vote (up from 15% in Nov. 2009).

Peter Schiff gained 22% of the vote (up from 21%), and 20% of voters gave Rand Paul the nod (up from 12%).

Chuck Baldwin, the winner of our November poll (29%) dropped to place 5 with 18% of the vote.

Sarah Palin, Pat Buchanan and Glenn Beck were virtually tied for 6th place, each gaining 13%. (Nov. 2009 Poll: Palin 13%, Buchanan 7%, Beck 7%).

Other candidates gaining at least one tenth of the vote include John Stossel (12%), Jim DeMint (11%) and Lew Rockwell (10%).

The poll attracted 10,580 voters and 356 comments. Each voter could select up to 5 candidates. The detailed results are as follows:

Ron Paul: No questions?

Question: Well, I’ll start. Representative Paul, I’m Ed Morrissey from Hot Air. And you’re here at the SRLC, it’s a leadership conference. Did you feel the need to deliver a message to Republican Party leadership? I heard a little bit of your speech. Are you concerned about the direction that the leadership is going in right now?

Ron Paul: Well, if you ask about delivering a message to the leadership, yes, I delivered the same message to everybody who listens. And I’ve been doing the same message for 35 years. So yes, the point I make was that the Republicans have lost credibility because they speak a good game but they don’t act very well. 1980 occurred, and there wasn’t much change, 1994 happened, nothing changed. Year 2000 happened, nothing really changed. And yet we’re the party of limited government and individual freedom. So I would say that my message was that we should practice what we preach. And right now it’s absolutely necessary, because people are so disgusted they’re leaving both parties. They’re getting out and they’re on their own and they’re upset and the country is bankrupt. So, to me, there is a fertile field out there for a message that I believe is deeply needed.
