Who Is Ron Paul?

15789 Responses

Ron Paul is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited, constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never voted for legislation unless the proposed measure was expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535″ on Capitol Hill.

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren.

While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. In 1976, he was one of only four Republican congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan for president.

During that time, Congressman Paul served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary measures. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.

Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th congressional district of Texas. He served on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. After retiring from Congress in early 2013, Ron Paul continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.

Ron Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one of his congressional colleagues to say, “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers’ ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are.” Another colleague observed, “There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few.”

Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:

  • He has never voted to raise taxes.
  • He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
  • He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
  • He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
  • He has never taken a government-paid junket.
  • He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
  • He voted against the Patriot Act.
  • He voted against regulating the Internet.
  • He voted against the Iraq war.
  • He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
  • He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

I have been a follower of Ron Paul for the last 8 years, my brother on the other hand has been following him for the past 20 years. I agree with everyones comments here, and I have spent alot of my own money contributing when I can. Any one person who gave Ron Paul a thumbs down is not a true patriot of the constitution. As Ron Paul said many years ago, " We have become a nation that wants the government to take care of us from crib to grave." It is about time we take back our nation, our country, the way it should be. We have too many politicians in office collecting a paycheck. Let's take an example of Rick Santorum, held a seat in the senate for six years. He has not held a position since, but yet he receives a paycheck and medical coverage for his time in office, at the taxpayers expense. Why is that?

I really believe that once you leave your seat, you need to go out and get a job. When Obama leaves the office, he needs to get a job. Get the picture? Do you want to see us in another recession, depression? Speaking of depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt brought us out of the depression by garnishing our wages in federal income tax, which he said would drop once the economy was stable. Our government has screwed us in this since his death.

We are in too many countries, fighting wars if you want to call them that. Your sons and daughters are in foreign lands that don't want us over there. Let's start taking care of us first, in jobs, economic trade, and most of all LOVE.

how ron paul can still be elected president of the us in january of 2013: Barack Obama has not yet been re-elected president. Yes, the election is over – but remember, a presidential election in America is not by popular vote. We vote for the candidate, but what we are really doing is voting for the electors who will meet on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December. That is when the actual re-election of the president occurs. Is there a way to stop this? Yes, there is. And the best part – this is totally constitutional. The 12th Amendment of the Constitution as well as Article II of the Constitution govern the Electoral College. According to the 12th Amendment, for the Electoral College to be able to select the president, it must have a quorum of two-thirds of the states voting. If enough states refuse to participate, the Electoral College will not have a quorum. If the Electoral College does not have a quorum or otherwise cannot vote or decide, then the responsibility for selecting the president and vice president devolves to the Congress. The House of Representatives selects the president and the Senate selects the vice president.
Since the Republicans hold a majority in the House, presumably they could vote for Ron paul if people phone then and email them telling them they want them to vote that way , and if they do he would be elected president. Can this work? Sure it can.Democrats have actually set this precedent of refusing to participate to deny Republicans a quorum. They did this in Wisconsin and in Texas. Why can’t we do this with the Electoral College? So how do we do this? Mitt Romney carried 24 states. We need to have conservative activists from all over the nation contact the electors, the Republican Party and the secretary of state in all of these states and tell them not to participate in the Electoral College when it meets on Dec. 17. If we can get 17 of those states (just over one-third) to refuse to participate, the Electoral College will have no quorum. Then, as the Constitution directs, the election goes to the House of Representatives. That is how we can still pull this election out and make Ron paul president in January of 2013.

well, I was a democrat but now I think I'll join the Ron Raul Revolution. His messages remind me of the founding fathers and how this country was originally founded on and the original meanings of everything American. The political parties in the 16, 17 and 18th centuries were completely different from what they are today and I believe we should restore what America and the founding fathers originally intended back then. whooo hooo!

I am America. Not the country, but the idea. People have either forgotten what it is or perhaps never understood. Your farewell speech is integral for us to move on, to act like our forefathers and break away from tyranny and oppression. Now is our time to approach the evil that is upon us and eradicate it with our actions and our voices. I feel the need to play a part in this using what resources I have available to me, my mind and mostly my heart. I wanted to inquire about what I can do to get started in my state of California with regards to the upcoming movements that are taking place, most of all the secession movement. Any information that I may obtain from you would be relevant for me. Thanks for being the only man in about 150 years that our genius forefathers would have been glad to call you a colleague.

I loved living California just after my service during Viet Nam, and now wish I never had "Georgia on my Mind" where I have lived since 1989.

CA has done more for its citizens to protect them from this ongoing national scourge that is still crushing millions of homeowners dreams and families than many other states, esp GA.

We should use this group to carry out what Ron would have done if he were our President.

      Just happen to have one:

Calling any and all Patriots of good-will to assist fight against ongoing infringements on our Constitutional rights and protections, rule of law, due process etc., regarding federal oversight and mandates to protect our citizens from wrongful foreclosure and comply with the Protecting Homeowners/Tenants at Foreclosure Act.

Especially in Georgia, which is 6th highest in foreclosures, 6th most impoverished state, and 6th highest for no protection or assistance for its citizens.

FNMA, bailed out and now bought out with our taxes continues to abuse fed mandates, law and its own written policies. Their servicers and leasing companies force people into foreclosure and then do not allow them to be priority buyer or provide the term of lease according to law.

Even if you can only direct me and others in who to contact. I have tried any state agency that should be able and have the obligation to help. That includes agencies up to the atty. general, which referred me to the DOJ; still nothing.

Ron Paul could have won the election if he kept pressing forward. I really wish he HAD run third party. The RNC stole the primary for Mitt Romney because they knew that he could not contend with Obama. Ron Paul's pride for being the only true republican is what led to his campaign being suspended for lack of funds. He would have made a stronger third-party contender since the Republican party has lost its way.

The people want security. In their persons and in their money. The easiest way to give the election over to Obama was to put him up against someone who people fear being president because of their insane proposed policies (Romney).

You can see this has scared a lot of people out of voting for the third party candidate, Gary Johnson because people would rather secure a victory for Obama than take a chance to try and elect someone who would make real positive change (Johnson/Paul)

Our system is broken and controlled explicitly by the media -- I'm hoping our nation wakes up soon.

Okay, if Ron Paul supporters are serious about moving the country back to its Libertarian oriented roots, they have to first give up on trying to do this through the Republican party. The party's control is far too entrenched with those who will never give up on their military domination of the world and religious right agendas on social issues. It would be like trying to move a mountain with a few hand shovels. For the first time in my life, I believe a serious third party with a libertarian agenda could be a serious contender. There are more than enough Republican and Democrats who would abandon their parties and independents who would welcome a fresh breath of air. Problem is the media is controlled by those supporting the Democrats (all the major channels) and Republicans (FOX - see what they did with Judge Napolitano after his strong support of Ron Paul). What we need is for Andrew Napolitano, Ron Paul and others to organize and get support for a new TV channel focused on supporting the libertarian agenda. Without a national news outlet, candidates like Ron Paul will always be marginalized in the media. FOX was able to do it for the Republicans - time for LNBC (Liberty News Broadcasing Company) to arise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with everything Ron Paul is for. However I believe one of the ways of helping the economy is to LEGALIZE drugs. This will just about solve most of the crimes related to buying, using or selling drugs. We won't have to keep up prisons and all the expenses related to them. It is the people's Right to overdose or not. Freedom means also the right to live or die. All this Government INTERFERENCE is for the profit of special interests. To wit: Organized Crimes and Organized RELIGION.
The only drugs that should not be tolerated are those that harm others such as Alcohol and Cigarette. But those, are not only legal, they are subtly encouraged by romanticizing their uses in movies and Teens who start college.
Also if raising Taxes are needed, Religious organization SHOULD ALSO be taxed.

I'll vote Obama. Nothing makes sense anymore. The closest thing we have today is Gary Johnson, and Ron won't give his endorsement. Just makes no sense. Did Ron Paul file an affidavit of noncandidacy in any states?
Because if not, then read your state constitutions on Elections. If it says something like: (c) The Legislature shall provide for partisan elections for presidential candidates, and political party and party central committees, including an open presidential primary whereby the candidates on the ballot are those found by the Secretary of State to be recognized candidates throughout the nation or throughout California for the office of President of the United States, and those whose names are placed on the ballot by petition, but excluding any candidate who has withdrawn by filing an affidavit of noncandidacy.

Then they may not take him off the ballot. You can write him in.

I had lost hope on a decent and honorable human being ever coming forth until one day on a yahoo post, I saw the name Ron Paul. I looked him up and immediately knew he was hope. I only wish he'd run as an independent. Please Dr. Ron Paul do not give up. Run again, and again, and again. The poeple of the United States need you. I'm currently a full time college student and work full time.
I lived in Europe for 10 years and moved back 1 year ago to the United States at the age of 19. I thought this is where I can make the most of my dreams. Not because of the "American dream", but because of value of freedom I thought this country had.
Our founding fathers really knew something, but we have steered far from that. . Being 20 years old I didn't really have any interest in politics until recently. I spent a year researching politics, watching the news on several channels, listening to what U.S. politicians have to say. I was looking for some form of relief that the system I live in is at least heading in the right direction.
I got more and more frustrated. These politicians meant nothing to me and didn't represent the core values I expect. I was about to give up and vote for the "lesser of two evils", but then I came across a youtube video of Ron Paul .... and there it was. I read more and more about him and was relieved to feel a spark of hope for contemporary politics.

Please run for President as long as it takes.
More and more people will open their eyes.
Thank you for all you have done for our Nation.

I was never committed to any party and always voted for whom I thought was best for our beautiful country. I am disgusted at what has transpired over the last several decades. I am sick and tired of seeing good, honest, intelligent, hard working and tax paying people having everything taken from them little by little or being ripped off by the powerful and not being represented or protected. I happened on a Ron Paul article by chance and liked very much what I read, what Mr. Ron Paul stood for and most importantly that he certainly practices what he preaches! This is a true man of integrity, values, honesty and years of experience practicing and standing firm on everything he said he would do and his voting record certainly proves this. I also agree that voting outside the 2 big parties does not waste your vote. Not voting and acting your rights, would be considered a waste! For those who say they want change, voting will certainly send a message in the very least! We desperately need a leader who will represent and make changes for the majority of Americans, one who will not be obligated to lobbyist and special interest groups, one with a true plan of change for the better.

Paul is NOT a last chance for the USA and for the world. Neither is Johnson, for that matter, should you decide to protest vote for him, instead.

Here's what I predict will happen: Realistically, the presidential nominee will be either Obamney or Robama. Either one will wreak havoc on our country, to an extent that we've never seen before. Things will continue as they have been (or go further downhill), and we will face another difficult 4-8 years of fascism. That is what will happen whether we like it or not - it really doesn't matter WHICH of the two evils get in, because they're both on the same side, controlled by the same puppeteers.

**BUT**.. in the meantime, the true liberty lovers - the TRUE Hope and Change for America - will continue fighting. People will continue "waking up". It's already happening, all around us, and if you pay close enough attention to some of the POSITIVE accomplishments the Freedom Movement has made recently, and of course not listen to the special-interest controlled mainstream media, you will see that things are moving in the right direction. There has been a paradigm shift, finally. No matter how hard the Romneys and Obamas of the world try, they can NOT kill an idea.

It WILL take a while to make things better. We must not fall into the trap of believing that Ron Paul (or any other political "savior") is a "last chance" candidate.. there is ALWAYS a chance. Just be patient..

We will prevail. We will overcome. Their house of cards is bound to collapse sooner or later, and when it does, we will be the ones to rebuild. Don't lose hope. Please, people.. start preparing for 2016 NOW. And if we lose that one, then 2020, 2024, etc.. you get the idea.

      Peace.

Guys, I honestly don't think Ron Paul is anywhere near over. I don't think he is going to retire. He is a fighter and has stood up to his own ideals without change for over 20 years. He is 77, and yet he is still a congressmen. Somebody who does that is because they really do love their country. I don't think his going to give up on that any time soon. Mostly when he has been picking up momentum. All I really think he needs is more organization and publicity! He should take a stand in this election and either run as an independent or endorse Gary Johnson. I have a pretty strong feeling that he WILL run in 2016 with a more organized and aggressive approach. Truthfully, Obama is going to probably because people buy into his Charasmatic personality. I just hope the house of reps or senate become Republican so they hault any more movements Obama intends to make. Anyways, people who believe in Ron Paul need to stand up and start spreading the word! The media obviously will do everything to blank him out, but that is why we have the internet! Start writing articles and blogs on Paul, invite people in Facebook to support and get to know Paul, ext. Do anything you can. The United States people will wake up and see the need for major change, a revolution. Voting for Ron Paul or Johnson is not giving a vote for Obama, it's speaking your voice and demanding change. The lesser of two evils never works, as they are really very similar and are controlled by the same people. The corporations that give them the money for their campaign are the same for both sides, either way Romney or Obama don't have us the common fellow in the top of their priority list. Nowhere near it. Gary Johnson 2012 , Ron Paul 2016-2024!

I don’t get it? Ron Paul is either right or wrong. If the country is really in trouble, how can I throw away my vote? I figure my vote is more important now.

If Obama wins, will there even be a 2016 election?

I wanted Ron Paul, but am not just going to abandon my country to make a point. Romney is not a perfect candidate and I hate making the “lessor of two evil” argument, but it’s more than that. This really comes down to, is it over? If you really think the US will fall and your last, final message is hey I will vote for Ron Paul, then maybe you don’t get it.

It sounds to me like you have given up.

I wanted Ron Paul, did not get him, so I got my name on the ballot in my district for committeeman and will work to support candidates that share Ron Paul values. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, and get out there and do something.

Fellow Libertarians, don’t punish our children by allowing Obama to rule over us and destroy the constitution for another 4 years.

Columnist Andrew McCarthy gives us what probably is the most important question regarding the upcoming presidential election: appointments to the Supreme Court.

"If Mitt wins the nomination, I will enthusiastically support his candidacy". For my friends who have hesitation on that score, I’d just ask you to keep these things in mind:

      1. Justice Scalia just turned 78

      2. Justice Kennedy will t
      urn 78 later this year

      3. Justice Breyer will be 76 in August

      4. Justice Ginsburg turned 81 about a week ago. In addition, Justice Ginsburg has Pancreatic Cancer.

      5. Justice Stephens has already said he would retire and is just waiting for Obama to be reelected.

The next president could appoint as many as 5 new Justices over the next 4 years, or over the next 8 years if a new President gets a second term. This election is about much more than the ObamaCare Tax.

Whomever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one new member of the Supreme Court, in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for decades to come."

If you don’t think it matters whether the guy making those calls is Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, THINK AGAIN.

So for anybody who is thinking of not voting because your favorite didn’t get nominated, or writing in a candidate who can't win, imagine this:

      SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ERIC HOLDER???

Good going..think Hillary Clinton instead of Eric Holder. That is my thought along this line. Eight years virsus lifetime influence. Her ego would implode at the choice.

Our country is in such bad shape precisely because people have been voting for "the lesser of two evils" for a long time. Exactly because people feel the need to vote for a Democrat or Republican party endorsed candidate. When I vote for someone who is not likely to win I am not throwing my vote away, I am letting my voice be heard proper just as the system intended. When our Constitution is swept aside, through the lesser of two evils vote. And we lose our right to vote then is when I will do as the founding fathers dictated in the Declaration of Independence; then is when my voice will change from a meek lamb to that of a lion.

If a lion roars in the forest and nobody hears him, is he relevant? Grow up and face reality..sometimes the choices are not so palatable. Romney or Obama, live with the result..

The television has fooled you. Ron Paul is our only hope. The left and the right hands wash one another.

Erik...take your country back, vote for Ron Paul? Hello! He did not get the nomination..I love Ron Paul, but I love the country more. Unfortunately, voting for Ron Paul is a vote for Obama. Hope you can live happily with the results.

Why would you come to a Ron Paul support site and be a condescending, ignorant, closeminded fool attacking everyone's opinion?! Go to some Romney site and spout your ignorance, nobody here wants to hear from you. If a vote for Paul is a vote for Obama then I still have not wasted my vote. There is no way you can have the wisdom of a 69 year old AND be a woman AND still want to vote for Romney.

We agree that corruption is everywhere. But what our website shows is that the stock market is a hand written program written with the help of a programming computer. The code is in the 1 minute boxes of the Dow Index.
We do not know who is receiving the code but we have all the documentation.
The code broadcasts the daily movement of the Dow Index that controls the direction of the stock market. The direction is given daily and 3-5 days ahead. Some of the numbers in the boxes are changed occasionally during the trading session and sometimes after the market closes. We have those changed numbers.
This is the biggest insider trading scam of our lifetimes and seems like a security risk to the U.S. economy.
I don't expect you to read this email and believe what I'm saying. I'm asking you to look at the website carefully and have your trusted people vet it and then you'll know what we've discovered is true.
Please be careful when disclosing this material.
I hope to hear from you in the near future.
