Ron Paul: Reduce Spending, Reform Government, Restore America’s Prosperity

Today, 2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul issued a statement outlining his opposition to the House version of the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act.

Ron Paul: “While I applaud the spirit of the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act (CCB) and appreciate how it has shaped the debate to include a permanent solution to our deficit crisis, I could not support the legislation as it was presented today.

Though I broke with many of my friends in Congress by voting against the House CCB plan, I was the first Presidential Candidate to sign the Cut, Cap, and Balance Pledge, as I believed in its call for ‘substantial’ spending cuts, hard caps, and a Balanced Budget Amendment.

These difficult times require that presidential candidates be willing to lead on this issue by standing against runaway spending and promoting real changes to ensure future prosperity.

If elected President, I will veto any spending bill that contributes to an unbalanced budget, and I will balance the budget in the first year of my term. I will also fight for and sign an iron clad Balanced Budget Amendment to the United States Constitution.

I have never voted to raise the federal debt limit, and I have no doubt that we face financial collapse and ruin if we continue to grow our debt. We need to make major spending cuts now, in this budget, and we can no longer afford to allow more deficit spending based on promises of future cuts.

The CCB act would add $2.4 trillion of new debt to our gargantuan $14.4 trillion debt. CCB would also only cut $111 billion from this year’s budget, allowing a deficit of nearly $1.5 trillion. This is far from the Pledge’s call for ‘substantial’ cuts. And, CCB locks us into current levels of overseas welfare, which will continue to endanger America’s security by forcing us to subsidize other wealthy nations.

For decades, politicians have promised future restraint in exchange for hikes in the debt limit. Each time, it’s said that if we act immediately to avoid a crisis, we will give the matter proper debate at the next vote. But, time and again, politicians reveal themselves to be untrustworthy. Promises of cuts remain unfulfilled, and we soon find ourselves once more in a crisis that we are told can only be addressed by upholding the status quo yet again.

Many of my friends have made the case that, despite this bill’s shortcomings, CCB should be supported in order to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment. CCB, unfortunately, does not guarantee a Balanced Budget Amendment will ever pass. It would still have to be ratified by the States, a process that could take years and perhaps even fail.

If we want a Balanced Budget Amendment to be the silver bullet against Big Government that many hope it will be, it must be iron clad. The CCB Balanced Budget Amendment removed the two-thirds threshold requirement to exceed spending caps, which would be too easy for politicians to violate.

Though I voted against today’s House version of Cut, Cap, and Balance, I continue to support the Pledge’s goals, and I remain committed to working on behalf of the American people to drastically reduce spending and implement fundamental changes that will reform government and restore our nation’s prosperity.”

The last thing we need is a reformist in Washington. The government is fucked up so much that we need a new form of government and we need to dump those crippled political parties and have a party of workers that can bring America back. No more voting either, that is a useless exercise if I ever saw one. Changes made are soon undone and then it is back to the old game of the rich ruling the poor. We need the Workers Equality Party. It has a solid Marxist foundation and it will bring freedon like there never was in this country with all who want to work. Taking care of the old. Education. Every woman’s right made law. Free health care. Don’t believe the lies that socialism will not work. Marxism will work and he was a genius with a plan. It can be ours if we dump those two useless parties! Ron Paul has nothing new and the Repulican party will either kill him or bury him!

As an American citizen, I for one cannot support the current regime (that includes the House, Senate and White House) in their request to raise the debt ceiling. The Senate and House have had their chances to make a difference, and they’ve ignored the warnings given to them. And, the White House is self-evident in its lack of abilities. All of them are setting us back to the pre-industrial age….because most of us will not be able to afford any of the new wonders our country is so great at creating, so the new will become the old creations. Businesses will not be able to build anymore ie., weatlth will soon completely disappear for the Nation, for the man on the street, and for the businesses. New ideas of industry will have to be put on hold, the anniversary gift will have to be just an idea, and health systems will dry up. We, the American people, can help, but we need a government that can help itself. So, vote Ron Paul in as your next leader….let him be our leader to put our houses in order. JT

we are looking at the end comming soon if we cain’t get someone in there that will make the hard choices ,ron paul is the only one that will. this vote on the debt was a joke , i hope the people of this nation will remember what has just happened when it comes time to vote , not only for the president but to vote out all these senators and congressmen that refuse to take a stand on the debt. ron is right all they intend to do is spend more of our money. we all need to get behind ron.

Balance the budget but do not cut social security or medicare. We spend billions of dollars for people over seas when our own house is not in order. I’m all for helpin my neighbor after I help my own family. Any congressmen or senator who is not doing their job in congress past or prescent should be held accountable.

Better not cut Social Security or Medicare without a corresponding cut in FICA and Medicare taxes! These programs are not funded through the general fund and income taxes, they have seperate accounts with seperate funding streams. It would be STEALING to cut Social Security or Medicare without those corresponding tax cuts on FICA and Medicare taxes.

Cut spending by ending the occupations of dozens of nations around the world, which makes us less safe, not safer. These occupations serve private interests, let them hire their own mercenaries to fight their war… it is not America’s business to be the world policeman.

Cut spending by refusing to pay interest to the Federal Reserve. We can borrow from ourselves without paying interest to private bankers, who create the money out of thin air to begin with!

Thanks for sticking to your guns Mr. Paul. Regardless of what the future brings, your record will distinguish you as the ONLY TRUE PATRIOT inside the beltway. And your fine son, as well. Godspeed to you Sir. RON PAUL 2012!

    RON is REAL!
You can count on him to tell the truth, abide by the Constitution and do what he says he will do.
    That should be RP’s slogan.

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” – Sen. Barack Obama, 2006

Exactly Right Mr. Obama! We do deserve better and Ron Paul is the right man, with the right plan to get us there.

It was Ron Paul supporters that started the Tea Party, every other candidate that claims to be a TP candidate is only following RP’s lead.
The Tea Party IS the Ron Paul REVOLUTION!

Ron Paul in 2012, or sooner!
